Linux is not and must not be an operating system for workstation computers !! So that's why all the "cliché" inside are so true, because most of the time, we want use linux for our desktop computers, stupid idea, stupid ubuntu by the way ;).

Linux is perfect for server, stop using it for your workstation pc. There is already a perfect os for this, i let u guess which one guys ;)

Heyy... Macs don't get viruses because the OS is built better than Windows is. I found a nice quote on the internet somewhere:

Even platform targets that are tiny to the point of insignificant are attacked by malware. Specific versions of small minority of Symbian phones were attacked by a Bluetooth virus, not because those models made up 95% of the phone market, but because there was an open flaw in their software that left them vulnerable to attack.

Mac > Windows >>>>>> Linux

But Linux thinks it's at the top. Poor, poor misguided Linux.

Actually, I didn't find it much funny, but then that's my opinion. I think Windows are suited for an office, Mac for home and Linux (a good distribution, not ubuntu) can be a choice for home OS too. Especially its fun to do things others can't. In fact Linux desktops are prettier than what they used to be (with Compiz, Beryl etc. ) . Like two years back while I was searching for the prettiest UNIX implementation for a Desktop, I came across this OSX86 project, and then I switched from Suse to Mac. Talking about Suse , I feel its one of the best looking Linux out there, and functionality wise definitely better than Fedora (which again I believe is in a state of permanent Beta). And contrary to OSX86 if you get yourself a standard set of hardware, (not some fancy high-end gfx card) chances are that you can make them work provided you have a good (popular) distro. Now, the previous comment was based on openSUSE and I admit I cannot make such a strong opinion for other distros. But all that being said, I would like to sum up that Linux should be a huge NO-NO for people who like to be spoon-fed, people whose level of interaction to computers can be adjudged from the fact they spend their evenings on a couch with a burger in one hand and a remote in the other. I admit that Linux can be installed on laptops that come pre-installed with 'doze (off) OS, but how many people would care to partition their HDD and get linux installed. And the usual psychology is "If I have already paid for the (doze) OS, why not use it?" Otherwise there is no return on that (unwilling?) investment, isn't it? Ok, I admit that Linux is not as good as Vista, but then how many people who have already paid for Vista, have chosen to dump it... and purchase XP instead? Why MS is not shipping XP any more, (guess nobody wants Vista and that's how they are planning to get a return on the effort spent over 5 years and 15 million lines of code?) Its not like OS X , where people after purchasing an OS that comes bundled with an expensive computer would yell and say, "Yes, I love it, and I don't want to part with you (Tiger, Leopard, whatever)" As of today there are very few tasks that can't be accomplished with Linux, because there is a paucity of good applications (like syncing your iPod, or using a proprietary service like Exchange server), but think of this... what was the condition of Linux even a few years back?... And, how has it evolved, If we produce that curve to the future where is it leading to? I think you guys must know that the best browser in the world Safari is based on the code that was written for Konquerer? When I think of Linux, I undermine the lack of apps for it, but I think of the sheer power of UNIX inside it. Where would the world be without UNIX? And, it can be seen this way, Mac OS X is a commercial closed and commercial implementation of UNIX whereas Linux is a free one. It may be likened to an app which gives few features in the free version , but more powerful features in the Pro version.

Ok that was a long rant indeed. Didn't mean it to be so boring, but sorry if it is...
