Today marks the day that I am finally happy with my installation; Everything working, extremely quick, and I'm a very happy camper. I've used these forums a lot in my adventure so I thought I'd start a thread to maybe help my fellow AMD mates.

Below is my hardware/OS configuration (And a screenshot). If your system is very similar and have a question, go ahead and I'll do my best to help. (Let's please keep this to AMD users because let's be honest, Intel is for girls :)

ajan2468, just install xp in one partition and then instl osx in the other and you'll have dual boot.

trentmorris, well theres a critical issue with amd x2 cpu's, maybe you are saved from it, check it here (first post) http://forum.infinitemac.com/

Oh, I did read about that and thought about editing my boot plist with cpus=1, but I haven't had any problems with the AMD X2. Guess I just got lucky.

ajan2468, Piccolo is right. Startup using the Leopard install disk. Once in, use the Disk Utility to create two partitions. (make sure you remember what option you select (MBR/GUID) for your partitions, as you'll need to know that when you install a bootloader from Zephyroth's install. Then run your installer on the first partition, and then throw your XP install on the other. When you boot you should have a dual boot screen.. Choose which ever OS fancies you at the time, and you're set.

I found with Zephyroth's 10.5.2 I had to try a few confgurations with his addons. To find the right third party drivers, bootloader, ToH kernel, etc. Just play around with it. Worst case scenario, you have to format and reinstall a few times, but with osx86 it's kind of the nature of the beast. Hah, good luck!

Congratulations Trentmorris!

I actually managed to get it to work today as well..all except the resolution, but I guess I can't ask much with integrated graphics. A trip to the hardware shop should fix that! Maybe I can finally unplug the cable to my Windows hdd! And you are right! Intel is for girls.. rich girls!

Take care!

Haha, well congrats to you as well! Yes, I would recommend going to Fry's, or whatever you have near and picking up a cheap nVIDIA graphics card. MacVidia works like a pro.

I don't see Intel users as being rich, far from actually. You can attain an Intel processor for cheeeap (although there are very high end chips as well). I see it as Macs vs PCs. There is a huge price range for PCs, yet with Mac only the top of the line products are sold. You can't go wrong with AMD, it's faster than the Intel equivelant, hands down. But this isn't an INTEL vs AMD thread, so I'll stop.

Winters75, oh yeah, did you have any trouble with your mouse or stuttering? (cpus=1)

Congrats Man AMD FTW!!!!!!!

I've Used Both Zephyroth and Kalyway 10.5.2 on my desktop and they both work well.

Here are my specs

Mobo: Asus M2NPV-VM nForce 4

Processor: AMD Athlon X2 4200+ (AM2)

RAM: 2GB DDR2 800

Graphics: XFX nVidia GeForce 8600 GT w/ 256MB RAM

Hard Drive: 500GB + 250GB

Only problem i had was ethernet (only on zephyroth), and sound which is fixed here

Good Luck to all OSX86 Users...

I still remember when AMD was chosen because it beat Intel for it's performance AND price. That was one of the reasons why I started using their products. And to support the underdog...but it is true. Intel has gotten cheaper in my opinion because of AMD putting up a fight. They seem to have lost a bit of their edge but hopefully it comes back.

Indeed..I have decided to let go of those integrated graphics on my Asus board. I'm not a gamer so I don't need anything fancy. I'm thinking of something like Geforce 7200 GS, just to get QE/CI working and being able to change the resolutions (my eyes are killing me) So that is a good recommendation!

No problems with the mouse here. I have a Logitech laser mouse and it works fine. Only problem I get now and then is the nforcedeth that seems to fail now and then..but I have had worse problems than that. Besides..I just want to check OS X out before I buy a Macbook by the end of the summer. I prefer to enjoy MAC OS X without all the hassle of patches, cracks, drivers and so on..plus..I'm a software developper and I know how much work is put into this kind of work!

Hello people!

I have been reading about installing leopard dual boot with vista ultimate everywhere but im glad to have found a forum where its dedicated to AMD. Im a noob at this and like others i want to try OSX before i buy. I have considered a macmini but would rather install it on my desktop and save money for a macbook pro or something.

I have no idea which guides, patches, fixes and isos to download. Its my first time doing this please help! Im planning on a completely fresh installation of both vista and osx.

my specs are:

AMD x2 5800+ (AM2)

Asus M2N-SLi Deluxe (i think its on nforce 570)

2GB corsair DDR2 800mhz

Seagate SATA2 320 HDD

XFX 8800GTS 320mb

Thanks for your guidance guys!

Hello darkmagician!

From noob to noob..I also wanted a dual boot.. but I read somewhere that it would be a lot easier to get a cheap hard drive and install the OS's separately. I tried the dual boot approach and I got a few headaches, firstly because I wanted Tiger and it just didn't recognise my SATA hdd. Partly it was my fault because I decided to try it right away and didn't do much research. Anyway, I hope you won't have half of the problems I encountered.

About guide, patches, isos and so on. Take a look at the hardware compatibility list. You will find many components (and even pre-built desktops or notebooks) there and which recommended installation for them. You find the list here and another hardware list can be found here. This forum is a good place to find solutions and most of the people here are very willing to help. And remember..Google is very handy tool!

Good luck!

Hi!

could you suggest a link where I can find the update for Zephyroth's 10.5.2? :P

could some one point me and recommend me which is better Zephyroth or Kalyway 10.5.2 thanks

Also nobody has encountered any problems with vista on SATA and Leopard on IDE right?

Thanks

I personally favor Zephyroth, it seemed to come with all the drivers and patches I needed to get it up and working. I tried several Kalyway installs with no avail, the seemed to cause more headache then success. But that is most likely because of my hardware setup. Kalyway might work like a charm for some people. For me, that was not that case.

As for the SATA question, I have one IDE 80GB which I run Leopard on, an SATA 500GB, and an SATA 750GB that I use to store media. Both work perfectly. Haven't ran into an pitfalls with SATA. :) (Tiger was another story, but Leo is more accepting of my drives)

I would suggest zephyroth 10.5.2 (Rev 1 or 2) for this because of the bootloader.

Also this is assuming that you have a vista disc on hand as well.

You will need "Hirens Boot CD" as well which you can get from here

http://www.kaldata.net/modules.php?modid=1...show&id=579

Step 1: Install vista

1) Load the vista disc and get to the drive select screen.

2) Make 2 partitions; one for vista and one for leopard

3) Install vista

Step 2: Install mac

1) Load the zephyroth disc, at the boot prompt hit F8 and type "-v" (no quotes)

2) Once the disc loads go to Utilities>Disk Utility

3) At the disk utility format the leopard partition into HFS+ (Mac OS Extended Journaled)

4) Continue w/ installation until you see a "customize" button, press it

5) Select the 9.2 SSE3 kernel

6) Select the nForce chipset driver

7) Select the nVidia graphic driver w/ 320mb

8) Select all the network drivers, sound drivers, and the mbr bootloader

9) You dont need the additional fonts or language translations unless you want them

10) Install, restart, remove the disc, cross you fingers and GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Step 3: OS X 10.5.2

1) If you booted into OS X....you did it, your almost there

2) Now try to boot into vista using the bootloader (it shouldn't work)

Step 4: Fixing vista XD

1) Insert hirens boot cd and go to the disk partitioning>acronis disk (something)

2) Choose manual mode

3) Change the vista partition back to active

4) Boot back into the vista disc

5) Click repair now tab and it should automatically fix it.

6) Insert hirens again, go to acronis, and change the active partition back to leopard

7) Use the bootloader to see if you can boot into both os's

Step 5: Enjoy your hackintosh!!!!!

Thank you thank you MGJulius!!! but if i were to, as Winters75 suggests, i install on separate hard disks what steps do i need to take out?

1) i install vista on my primary hdd.

2) install mac on the slave hdd?

also if i was successful would i have to change the boot order everytime i go into vista or mac?

sorry for being such a pain and noob :censored2:

thx

I have XP installed in my SATA HDD and MAC on ATA. When I boot the computer, I have configured my BIOS to accept the SATA default boot HDD, and that can be reversed as well. I dont know what is the board you have and if that BIOS has the same option. Also what if I want to use MAC without entering the BIOS and changing those boot parameters what I do is at boot time, I press F8 wich gives me instant access to which drive I want to boot from. HDD or DVD. Have a look at your BIOS..This works for me!

i have just tried to install vista on a SATAII drive and mac on an IDE using Zehp's leo 10.5.2 AMD EFI-Rev 2

vista was conpletely fine on install, I followed instructions from the previous page.

it got up to the part where it said installing mac osx, at 100% it said there was an error and gave me a yellow triabgular '!'.

please help, sorry its a bit vague but i dont know whats wrong.

thanks

That's usually because the installer couldn't successfully make the new installation disk and/or partition bootable (that's the last thing the installer tries to do - after OSX installation is complete).

You may be able to make it bootable yourself. Lots of info on the AMD wiki (sorry, don't have the link...)...
