The logo competition is now closed, and I was just thinking... the new board design has the option for the user to pick light or dark, correct? So why not have the option for the user to pick whatever logo they want to have up top (so long as all the logos fit into certain parameters).

Macs and this community in particular are all about customization, right?

A logo is more than a sign or image at the top of the page, it's something that people remember your site by, something universal about that site that everyone can "relate" to. If we held a logo competition for the current site to change the current logo, there is no question that half the entries would be better than the one we have now. Some people want entry A, and some people want entry B. If we allowed people to choose the logo it's kind of like taking away the Apple Logo from Apple.

In essence, I agree with what you're saying; if you take away the apple logo from apple, they lose the most instantly recognizable graphic element of their brand. Where I'd like to differentiate is that Insanely Mac doesn't have a unique logo or logotype. The command symbol currently being used doesn't say "Insanely Mac" when I see it. It just says "apple", or more specifically: an apple keyboard.

Anyway, the point I'm trying to get at is that Insanely Mac doesn't have a logo or brand to worry about taking away, so as long as it says "Insanely Mac", it would still represent the site. If in the future someone does design a unique graphic that represents this site, then you would simply need to include that in any future designs to provide consistency.

Well, as soon as I see the silver command symbol on blue, I immediate think of InsanelyMac.

I don't know... maybe it's because I've been using apple computers since long before the birth of OSx86 that the command symbol is firmly entrenched in my mind as a tool for keyboard shortcuts.
