milton02
I was looking for a way to connect my PC with mac os x on top of it to a TV. Reading in the last posts I see that people can have a second monitor output using the ADD2 PCI-Express card with m/b with Intel GMA 900/950. Since there is no vendor that supplies a ADD2 expansion card with TV-out, I was thinking if it is possible to use the Apple DVI to Video adaptor to get PC output on a TV. the adapter just costs $19 dollars from apple store. Can anyone with a ADD2 card on their hackintosh try to use this adaptor (if of course they have one) and let us know if it works?? Are there any other possible solutions to get the TV-out working???? Thanks in advance Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11395-add-2-pci-e-and-apple-dvi-to-video-adapter/ Share on other sites
MacApprentice
this adaptator output DVI-D, so it's digital only. If you don't have a DVI or HDMI input on your TV, you're screwed. declan
I thought the DVI to Video had composite and s-video out. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11395-add-2-pci-e-and-apple-dvi-to-video-adapter/#findComment-71908 Share on other sites
milton02
Yes, declan is right: it's an adapter from DVI to S-video or composite. You can give a look here for more details: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebO...nplm=M9267G%2FA does anyone own it? cyrana
The reply mentioning DVI-D is right. That Apple adapter only does DVI-I to S-video or composite (all shipping Apples have DVI-I on them). By definition, the D in DVI-D means digital...DVI-I has analog+digital signals and allows that sort of adapter to be possible. I haven't seen a solution for the ADD2-N cards, although Intel touts it as a possibility (ie, an ADD2-N card that specificallly has some analog functionality in separate ports). MacApprentice
I wasn't very clear but yes, that's what I meant. DVI-D is digital only so the adapter won't work with it. Just wanted to make sure those people after you realised they were incorrect in assuming that Apple adapter would work with an ADD2-N Card. They somehow didn't read your post or something... Kevlar
I am going to build a "Mini" for output to my HDTV with DVI-in, but before I build that machine, I will bring my desktop downstairs (GMA950 with a ADD2-N card) and try to see if I can get video output to my TV from my box once I go buy a DVI cable and I will report back here if it works or not, I'll do this after work today. Also, I came across this ADD2-N card which says it has S-Video out, http://www.prolink-usa.com/item_disp.php?upc=4711845391135 so that might be the answer to people who don't have DVI or HDMI on their TVs. The ADD2-N card works awesome. OS X detected my TV and my TV saw the Display.. Funky looking on boot, but once you get to the login screen all is great.. It is going to need some minor tweaking (icon size, text size, and I might have to manually chnage the resolution (best out of the 4 choices OS X gives me is 1024x576 which leaves me with some black space all the way around on my TV. Looks like it is time for me to build my "Mini".
