Hi, I am hoping someone here may have an answer for this. I have a G4 Quicksilver 867 and just aquired a Dual 1GHZ processor that is from another Quicksilver. I tried to install it and when I push the power button, it chimes, but then nothing, No display. It sounds like the hard drive is loading like it normally sounds, but I get no display. I have reset the PMU by removing the battery for the night and removing the power cord and power supply to the logic board. I also pushed the pmu button. And still no difference. Any idea? The cpu is good from what I know (got it from a friend of mine), and the only physical difference is that there is a 5th hole to put a screw through. It appears to be ground like 3 of the others and then 1 that looks like it may have power. I would really like to get this to work but it is a real head scratcher.

Thanks for your time :)

This does sound very strange. But for this I have a couple reasons.

-The FSB is NOT compatable with the logic board

-Your video cable may be loose (farfetched)

-If it chimes, give it some time.

I'm sorry to say, but this is the only a few reasons that I could think of. This is what's known as a "vintage" Mac. So support from Apple might be limited. You could give them a call, or visit your local apple store for help.

I thought about that FSB as a possibility, but the one that the dual cpu came out of was a 133bus (at least the memory?) I have changed the video card to an older one I have (known good) and it made no difference.

I do get the chime but the monitor doesn't even come out of sleep. Black screen. Very strange. The Other Video card (Geforce2 MX) is the factory card and does the same thing. I am getting an ATI 9800 Pro tomorrow and will try that.

Thanks!

Really? now just to clarify, this quicksilver works fine with the 867 cpu in it, it only does this with the dual 1ghz. I was wondering if maybe a faulty PS would do this. I did have some erratic behavior out of this system with the single chip and the original video card. it wouldn't come on, would come on by it's self, like it was possesed. I traced it to the video card's ADC connector. Taped it up and haven't had a problem since. Could the battery cause this too?

probably need +12v running to the daughter card like you would if you were doing a quicksilver to sawtooth mod. Do a google, you should find some useful information. Try Quicksilver CPU into Sawtooth.

Also see this thread for details on what i mean.

Ok, but if it's a quicksilver cpu going into a quicksilver, would I need to worry about that?

I am going to try a new battery this week and see if that works
