I heard about Super Duper, but i would like to do it with Mac built-in disk utility. Will this works ?

Yes. But why wouldn't you want to use Superduper? It blows away disk util in functionality, features, and speed. Truthfully I don't think I could live without Superduper. :hysterical:

I have been using Disk Utility for all my OSX86 backups since Tiger and it works amazing.

It's all you will ever need.

Simply boot off your OSX86 disc Tiger or Leo, depending on which is installed on your system.

Then connect an external drive and go to disk utility in the menu bar.

Click your Macintosh HD, then click New Image.

Don't change any of the settings or anything, they are all fine. Just name your image and save to an external disk or other partition.

Disk Utility compressed my 19.7 GB of used drive space into a DMG file only 7GB big. Amazing!

Then if you ever need to restore that image, if you have PC Efi, you need to reinstall OSX86 using your disc and open disk utility again.

Go to Open Disk Image in the file menu, then find your image and drag it to the white rectangle on the left that has your HD and ext HD.

Once it has mounted there, click your Macintosh HD, click the restore tab, drag Macintosh HD to the destination and drag your image to the source.

Then MAKE SURE ERASE DESTINATION IS UNCHECKED. If you erase then restore, it won't boot properly for whatever reason. (Related to EFI, I used to be able to restore and erase destination before I reinstalled Leopard with EFI.

Wait for the restore to finish (About a half an hour for me) and then reboot. It should go into OSX without any problems.

I know this seems kind of long and maybe even complicated upon first read, but it is really easy and effecient.

In fact, I should patent it. :)

If you have any more questions, feel free to reply, I will subscribe to this so I can further assist you.

Good luck.
