in the link to the pre update and update in bike town it says Archive1.1.3a and isn't the latest 1.1.4 ??

Everything updated now in this thread.......:D

Thanks,

As I said this is better then no reply at all.....

But it is not every day I'm called stupid.....but If the shoe fits right?

I'm the network /IT on-call (for the company I work for) this week. Since I have a lot of needy folks out there, I am a little sleep deprived. And when you get around 50 it takes a lot out of you….. Like thinking....

As you say the time to worry is when you do not even get a reply......I understand both sides but as time goes on I understand Mysticuc C*'s frustration even more, as I encounter the same issues in many posts as he does.........

Further to Mysticus C* suggestion......if you have the HDD space, you may consider doing what I have done, which is to set up a small 10GB OS X volume as the first partition on my OSX HDD, onto which I installed a basic Kalyway 10.5.2 OS X system, with cpus=1 and maxmem=2048 in com.apple.Boot.plist, as my OS X HDD boot volume.

It acts as the bootloader, system cloner, large file transferrer via LAN/Firewire etc. for the Main and Test OS X volumes in the 2nd and 3rd partitions on the OS X HDD......I can then mess around with the Main and Test OS X system and if they brick I can still sort things out as the HDD bootloader on my 10GB OS X Boot volume is never at risk....... :)

BIKE TOWN LINK IS UPDATED TO MY NEW SITE NOW, SO NO MORE PMs!!! (also I am quite fed up with people who keep messagig that there is no link in the website... you guys are total morons... just fncking learn to click on menus! and read the titles in the menus)

Stephen: right size of shoe only fits the right people :) i only told u to learn to do the clone guide... if you are a clever it guy, u will try what i suggested, and once u start using it, u will see how valuable that simple clone guide is, and u ll see how much countless of hours of pain it will save u from... :)

22hz: put your hardware specs in your signature so we dont need to go back and forth... try booting as verdant suggested: -v cpus=1 maxmem=2048 and do the update, but before that i suggested to learn cloning... before you guys keep complaining after every other trial, just learn to do the clone guide, and u ll see how important it is to learn that and how valuable it is..

installed 10.5.5 update, now i cant get sound to work, if i press some "media" key the keyboard stop working. Also rebot/shutdown doesnt work.

Try the StageXNU 9.4.0 kernel to fix your shutdown/reboot issues. I'm not sure, I think you can run the updater again and select only the kernel. Or you can use Pacifist to extract the kernel and matching system.kext 9.4.0 from the package. Use OSX86Tools to install the kernel and system.kext.

Find Pacifist and OSX86Tools with Google.

What keyboard do you have, and is it PS2 or USB? (Try to understand that saying "the keyboard stop working" is not enough information for anyone to help you).

Apple keyboards don't have "media keys" (well, they have volume and eject buttons but that's not what you meant). Go to the manufacturers website and see if they have any drivers or software for your keyboard. For example, if you have a Logitech keyboard, download and install the Logitech Control Center software for OSX.

Ok here goes: Steps I took to try and update Kalyway 10.5.2 to 10.5.5

Firstly Specs:

Processor: Intel p4 3.5 GHz

Mobo: Asus P5ND2-Sli N Nvidia Nforce Chipset

Hard Drive : IDE Maxtor 40g

mem: 4x 1g ddr2

Video: Nvidia Gforce 6600x pci express

Next Kalway install option

Fonts:Unchecked

Lang Trans: Unchecked

Kernel: 9.2 sleep

Gfx: Unchecked

Audio: Defaults

Network: Added ralink 2500 chipset under wifi

Mobo: All

Third Party: Unchecked iphoto

Patches: Time Machine Fix

All is well with the Install

Lastly Updating

Downloaded the 10.5.5 Combo update from Apple

Downloaded the 1.4 archive with a little luck from Mysticus

Extracted both to desktop rebooted

hit f8 for command prompt loaded -v cpus=1 maxmem=2048 (loaded to Desktop)( though was wondering because the prescott is not dual core, but you said try it with nforce chipset so that i did)

Double clicked the Pre Patch (installed ok)

Double clicked the combo update

when the combo update finalized everything locked up no mouse no keyboard and it forced me to restart before applying the post patch

any ideas? and sorry i was so very vague last night I spend the day trolling the internet trying to find a solve.

Thank Anyone and Everyone ahead of time

So, installed like your said on Test-Partition (Run Prepare for Combo Update, Official 10.5.5 Combo Update, and Post Combo Update Patch (choosed GMAX3100 Laptop, XNU 9.4, and Ps2, the rest restore) and rebooted). Now, it goes to spinning Apple and...black screen, reboot...goes again to spinning apple, mouse appears, spinning Apple freezes...but the mouse can still move...and I'm staying there. Tried it three times, the spinning Apple freezes always...

EDIT: Booted with -v, only the Power Management couldn't be loaded, the Rest seems to be ok...and now, the funny Part: Also here the mouse appears, but I'm staying in the Verbose-Mode..looks funny :P . Mysticus, what do you think about this?

So, my luck that I tested this on the Test-Partition  .

Again, this doesn't worked for me, but I'm shure that it worked for others, so thanks Mysticus for the great Work you're doing here!!!

linkdead: than forfeedback... do you have clone partition as per in my guide in first post?... if not, please take the time to have a propar structure with the clone guide... once done?

clone your main working (10.5.2 kalyway installed partition) to test partition... when cloning done, dont restart, just install the updates as in the guide, but this time, make sure you choose the test partition as installation location... got it? let it finish the update... dont worry about freezing... (this is to track down the driver that is causing this issue)... when the freeze occurs... reboot, and at start press f8, and choose the test partition, use -v to track down the panic message, when you see the panic, get screen cap of it... we will figure out which driver causing the issue... my guess is either applehwsensor, or appleefi driver... it cant be nvidia drivers because normal drivers are already loaded so they ll cause panic in next start up... but thats not an issue since you will boot to main again and do the last part (post patch) and can remove the trouble drivers manually  which will do the trick hopefully...

wanna help to track down these {censored} drivers? that is responsible for some of the nforce mobo issues... if you help me track this down, u ll also help others by doing so...

In the process of making the back up/ test partition ( Takes So much longer Reinstalling)

As far as contributing feed back and helping not a problem but there is a tiny problem

I'm a moderate mac user some basic terminal commands those that are equiv to linux

how would i go about doing everything you ask of me?

e.g.

where do i find the log file of errors?

How do i get screen cap on osx?

Can you make another walk through lol or point me in the right spot?

Thanks man

p.s Will be active on the forum via laptop so when ever replies are made won't be long til i see em

jowuo: was your sound card working before the update? is your sound card listed in the ALC list in the update? what is the fncking chipset on your mobo!!!

sorry... my specs are now in signature.

sound was working using 10.5.4 and the sonotone dell pack. (sigmatel 9288)

any clue?

thanks i will try

i tought it was understood was talking about xps 1330 laptop, im not using external keyboard.

read the clone guide and start over with dvd and respartioning is your first step...

kernel panic would not show on log i suppose unless you have debug drivers... but you can find which driver is causing it at restart using -v... screen cap would be with a camera?

summarizing:

I installed iatkos 4, and then with the pack Sonotone I was able to fix the sound and the graphics card.

I tried to do the update by following the instructions of Mysticus C, using:

kernel: vanilla with 9.5 fix

Chipset: Intel ICHx AHCI

Video: nvinject 128mb

Audio: just restore (it was working before)

Networking: none

SMBIOS: macbook

USB2.0 fix: Selected

acpi-apic deselect

ps2-battery: selected

Now the system works, but the sound doesnt, either shutdown/reboot, and when I hit any media key the keyboard stops working!

please some help

thank you

boot to your main partition, find the post package, right click, show contents... open resources/find kernel.mpkg, run it... install stagexnu on the test partition... this should fix instant reboot

Nope That's a no go forced reboot again should i try with other keral patches (okay tried again had to click standard installation for the kernal.pkg so i could select dest.

-v

Showed an error at

Failed to load extension com.apple.driver.AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement

Failed to load extension com.orByte.driver.PCGenGSBEHCI

I have a couple questions:

1. I'm at 10.5.2 Kalyway, and I didn't install the Vanilla kernel. Can I install it with this update?

2. This seems like a lot could go wrong for such a small update. What does the update actually do and is it worth it?

Thanks

first one is ok it is disabler driver for cpupowermanagement, so it it doesnt load and does not cause panic..., second one defines pcgenusb (aka usb 2 controller fix) you can delete that file...

start from main, open finder and scroll to drivers folder (system/library/extensions/) in the test partition..

/s/l/e/iousbfamily.kext/contents/plugins/pcgenusbehci.kext

find the iousbfamily.kext and than right click, show contents/ scroll to correct address as above, and delete the pcgenusbehci...

and reboot again from the test partition with -v see how far it goes...

ok no KP? so boot back to main partition, and than do the post update (dnt forget to change the location to test partition when u start the installer)... now you see you dont have hardware specs in your signature, i cant tell u options to choose... :(

off to bed... nite...

Hi Mysticus C*

I can't update to 10.5.5 though I strictly follow your instruction. With 1.1.2 Patch, I could finish all the updates and installations but the computer could not boot (showing problems with vga). As soon as I finish customising the Post-Patch with 1.1.3 and 1.1.4 Patches, and starting the installtion, the installer shows an error dialogue saying "The installer could not write the receipt to..."

This really discourages me because I have tried all available methods to update my system to the 10.5.5, and none of them works for me. Yours is my last hope, which now is also hopeless.

We're all gonna need specs and such

linkdead: did you do what i suggested last? boot to main, and and run the post patch change location to test partition to install, and customize it, and make sure you select the nforce fix in gfx drivers in addition to either nvinject with correct memory or nvkush...

kernel: 9.2.0 (u said 9.4.0 doesnt work? which i doubt but may be right)

chipset : leave it empty but can try nforce as well

audio: restore

network: restore

video as i suggested, nvidia gfx fix for force + nvinject with correct memory or nvkush

system: smbios: mac pro

that is it...

We're all gonna need specs and such

Yes, true. Mine is an Asus laptop (V1jp) currently running Leo4All 10.5.2 (updated using Kalaway 10.5.2 from Leo4All 10.5.1). The video card is ATI x1700.

When I used your 1.1.2 patch, I got the "vga failed" error message. You just mentioned me to use ATI 1950 but it didn't work, either. The 1.1.3/1.1.4 patches, as you know, give "The installer could not write the receipt...".
