Honestly, I don't have the issue with Linux. Sorry for the offtopic, but I was wondering because maybe somebody could've known ;)

if u have linux booting first and than windows there used to be the same time issue, i dont know if it has been solved in recent versions, and again you are messing the topic space with unrelevant subjects... i said there are topics regarding that subject through the forum... just go and search for it, and keep this topic clear for only update related subjects...

bitninja: have you read my guide note regarding the nforce chipsets at all?

Yeah I have to use cpus=1 anyways because I'm using the 10.4.8 versions of the ACPI/APIC kexts, and if I don't it just throws me an endless restart loop. I only have 2GB of RAM anyways, so is the maxmem argument necessary? I'll try it in a couple minutes here.

i dont have nforce mobo to confirm this but verdant did, and he has been a great help to me in my other topic (nforce topic) so i can count on him... he said -v cpus=1 maxmem=2048 did update correctly, so why it should not work for you too? :D

jeanz: your welcome, and good luck...

Hi,

Seems that I'm facing the same issue with the 88E8053@p5ld2. If you boot -v, can you see the message on failed to allocate MSI interrupt?

Is it possible that the driver update requires some entries in the EFI, like the GFX cards?

Any help appreciated.

Michal

I had the same problem with my 88e8053 Lan when I tried upgrading to 10.5.5 and ended up reverting to 10.5.3. I couldn't find any kexts that made a difference. There's some discussion of this issue b/w mysticus and ljseinfeld starting with post #1149, but I don't think there's a solution yet.

Ok,

I have done this update. But I have a little problem. No WIFI. I used iATKOS v.4.1 for my Mac install. I had included Wifi Drivers Atheros 5005eg during the install. I guess the restore network (since this was a patch) in the post install did not add this back. (noob to all this - sorry ^_^ ) Is there any way I can post install these drivers?

Thanks

Hi Mysticus,

not sure if you can help but I install the pre-patch, the combo and then the post patch and restart and type -v at the boot loader and I just get endless restarts

Hardware

Asus P5B Deluxe

Core2duo e6400

3g ram

Upgrading from Kalyway 10.5.2 Sleep kernal

I choose restore sound, restore chipset and restore network and leave the rest as default. no luck so far.

Nevermind on this. I found the Atheros 5005eg thread in the hardware drivers section of this forum. All is good now. :) But seem to have one more (minor) issue....my processor is showing as 4ghz unknown.

Trying right now...just reinstalled Kaly 10.5.2 fresh...*crosses fingers*

Oh dear.

Mac OS froze before I had a chance to install the post patch and now it just endlessly restarts. I have an Asus P5E motherboard, was running Kalyway 10.5.2 beforehand. Is there any way to install the patches from Windows or through the boot disk terminal, or even single user mode. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just updated my system and it worked successfully. There are only a few issues that I have questions about. My first question has to do with my hard drives, they are currently all set as external drives even though they are internal. Is there any fix for this? My second question is about shutdown, I used the kernel with shutdown fix but my computer still doesn't completely power down, any fix for this either? Any help is appreciated, also I tried to search for solutions but couldn't find anything.

*Fingers still crossed...no kernel panic yet...hope I didn't just jinx myself...

EDIT: NOO!!! IT FROZE!!!

-_-

Try booting with cpus=1 platform=ACPI|86PC debug=0x100 to try to run via ACPI but if not then run without ACPI, and also generate info. on kernel panics etc.......

After reinstalling and trying it again? Because now it just plain won't boot...I expected that.

When you say it won't boot, what does it actually do on screen......does to bring up a BIOS POST screen informing of a failed boot or what.......?

Hey buddy, this time i got the CUSTOMIZE done and followed every steps you wrote in post #1.

it went thru but the system froze after the 2nd restart. What should I do now? Thx a lot.

I have a Dell 8400 with P4 630, i925 chipset? 3G and 8600 GTS.

for the

Kernels i chose 9.4.0

Chipsets:

----Intel: ICHx is for all ICHx chipsets PIIX and Jmicron (AHCI-only)

Graphics: nvkush, nvinject

nothing for Audio

Network:restore network option

Hi Mysticus!

The update worked well for me! I just tried the Nvidia NVinject 512 MB driver and got a black screen even with -x at boot. But I managed to get out of it with the 2nd solution in the 2nd post in this topic: "black screen on nvidia geforce 6400 GO" at http://www.insanelymac.com/lofiversion/index.php/t48590.html

Perhaps you could include such links in your tutorial for such newbies like me? Nothing makes you give up easier than not finding what you need and be surprised so negatively. ;-)

Thanks a lot for your work - I'll use the donate button right now!

When you say it won't boot, what does it actually do on screen......does to bring up a BIOS POST screen informing of a failed boot or what.......?

It gets to MAC Framework Initialized - this is what happened before I used the 10.4.8 AppleACPIPlatform.kext and AppleAPIC.kexts. I replaced the new versions with my backed up old ones and now it's giving me some kind of USB EHCI error or something. This warrants a fresh reinstall...I'm gonna try iDeneb. Almost done downloading. That's already at 10.5.5.

on the nforce mobo, i used to have hardwaresensors driver and sometimes appleefi driver problems... these may be responsible from some of those freezes!

but i cant be very sure about it since i cant experience it myself anymore... but i can suggest to use clone partition.... make a clone, and while in main partition, install the update to clone partition, this will ensure that it will not brick anything even it freezes somewhere through the installer... so you can make sure brick free trial/errors...

nlbailey: you need to give specific details, how many fncking times do i have repeat myself... what exactly did you choose?

 Mysticus C*, you are the man!

thanks for a very complete guide

here's what i did in my pc

HP Pavilion w5030la

Pentium 4 2,8 gHz

2gbRam

Intel 82915g chipset

Intel 915g graphics

D-Link DWL G520 Wireless Lan (Atheros5212)

Realtek HDAudio (880)

Fresh Kalyway 10.5.2 install. No video drivers, Azalia Audio, No Network drivers, Sleepkernel, IntelMemoryController, No Timemachinefix (if i use this, timemachine doesn't work anymore), Default SMBIOS.

So i have no network and no graphics. Everything else is working.

After that i followed your instructions, created a TEST partition, but I installed the combo update right in the Main partition.

In post I selected:

-Kernel: No kernel (didnt know if TOH's kernel was the same i was using, so i just restored it from the test partition, and didn't know if the XNUStage would work for me with just a pentium4)

-Chipset: I restored the old one (i suppose it was the ICHx AHCI)

-Video: Intel GMA900 (2582 for my desktop)

-Audio: restore the old HDA Azalia

-Network: no network (im installing via IO80211Family.kext edit)

-SMBIOS: MacPro (that was what System Profiler said before updating), and left APIC-ACPI selected.

Rebooted (with old sleepkernel), waited for the system to reboot again (with old sleepkernel again), and voila...

I just installed my Wifi card drivers and i have a fully working system.

I hope this is useful for someone, cause it's exactly what i did.

can anybody tell me if I should install the XNUStage kernel? (I can try by myself, but i just wanna know if it's better than the sleepkernel im using)

Thanks again Mysticus for your fast response and your great guide

hey,  Mysticus C*

plz ignore the my post #1567. After deleting the APPLEBCM5715, it works now. Thx a lot.

However, the system profiler crashes.

and also, any idea of how to make the soundcard (AD1980) work in leopard?

Try that one:

It worked great for my ad1984! EDIT: Just take the kext, use the kext helper b7 - and off it goes! \EDIT I have stereo, but no mic or phones. if it doesn't help, try to find Turbo's posts - don't know any more where I have got them from... Just try to search for ad1980 - i got 5 posts and the last one is promising: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...1&hl=ad1980

Cheers!

I used the 9.5.0 Vanilla Kernel with Shutdown fix

Via Chipset

No video picked because I have a 10.5.5 driver

Restore Audio

Restore Network

MacPro SMBIOS

ACPI

USB Fix

I was running 10.5.4 Vanilla and everything worked correctly. If you need more information let me know.

via chipset? why on earth would you choose that? of course you will have those issues...

you were supposed to choose ichx ahci drivers (if your bios is set to ahci for sata ports-most likely u did or by default it is) or ichx no ahci (if you dont have ahci support which is unlikely)

what does the archive (patches) you downloaded says ? 1.1.3a or 1.1.4?
