I have eVGA GeForce 8600 GT, i'm running Leopard 10.5.2 (Kalyway). When i install NVInstaller V.41 or NVKush, i get a blank screen, i.e. there is no signal on the monitor. I tried using the property editor to edit the NVCAP settings in the NVInject but it didn't solve the problem. So i removed the NVinject. Can anyone please give me a solution ? This is currently what i have:

Type: Display

Bus: PCIe

PCIe Lane Width: x16

VRAM (Total): 32 MB

Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de)

Device ID: 0x0402

Revision ID: 0x00a1

Displays:

Display:

Resolution: 1024 x 768

Depth: 32-bit Color

Core Image: Software

Main Display: Yes

Mirror: Off

Online: Yes

Quartz Extreme: Not Supported

install nvinject or nvkush and restart with -v and post where its crashing

Thats the thing, it doesn't crash ! Only the display is blank, i.e. there is no signal in the monitor. But i know that Mac OS X is running fine becuz i can hear the sounds and when i click somewhere i can see the HDD Led blinking. So it doesn't crash, just the display is blank. I have tried Natit, NVinject and NVKush, i get the same result with all of them. I have Core2Duo E6420 processor, eVGA GeForce 8600 GT 1Gb DDR2 graphics card running Kalyway 10.5.2 vanilla kernel, i've tried different AppleSMBIOS-27 which includes iMac, Macbook, Mac Pro BIOS. Then i updated to 10.5.3 hoping that it will solve the problem, but the same result, no signal in the monitor after the spinning apple logo.

try this:

1) Installed Leo4All v3 w/o video drivers

2) Installed graphics drivers using installer

3) Followed editing instructions at http://nvinject.free.fr/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12

4) Rebooted and everything worked

applebot: Thanks for the info. It didn't solve my problem right away, but it helped in the end. It turns out that in order to get my XFX GeForce 8500GT 512MB card working, I also needed to edit the NVCAP string. 05000000 00000600 09000000 00000007 00000000 works for anyone else who has the same card. Seems like the signal was being sent to the VGA port, but that string switches VGA and DVI. I have a nForce chipset by the way.

Use the NVinstaller by punk92, then set the NVCAP string to 5000000 00000600 09000000 00000007 00000000 (i suppose you got dvi and vga in your card) after that, repair permissions voila!

..and here is one trick, if it doesnt work after rebooting try using vga and change the resolution in the display prefpane, in my installation the screen went blue and it freezed, then used DVI and it worked flawlessly. It might work with your 8600 too.

I tried connecting the monitor to the DVI port also using a VGA convertor, same result, screen goes blank. I think i'm very close to the solution, i found these links which make sense:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107319

http://forum.osx86scene.com/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=1286

I think i'll have to play with these files which store the resolution, refresh rate and other properties:

/Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist

~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.windowserver.xxxx.plist

Now when i connect my PC to my friend's monitor, it works fine. What i want to know is that how Leopard identifies a Monitor ? Is there a device id for the monitor also which i can change from some plist file ? If someone can experiment with the above files and tell me the results that will be nice! If we set the resolution using "Graphics Mode" key at boot prompt or inside the com.apple.Boot.plist file its useless becuz its only valid upto the grey apple screen with spinning logo, but when the actual GUI is loaded the resolution is changed.

Hi

I'm having exactly the same problem, except I'm using a xfx 7900GT. I'm using an old Acer 19inch LCD. As a test, I set up screen sharing in leopard, and installed TightVNC on my Vista Laptop. When I dialled in to my rebooted Hackintosh, I see a black screen, but with a mouse pointer, so its stil alive. Its just unable to create the right screen res I think. I HAV'NT tried the NVCAP thing yet though. All my device ID'd are correct.

The really annoying thing is the very first time I installed Leopard (Kalaway) everything worked, because the welcome animation played really smoothly - but the other half called me away temporarily and when I returned the hackintosh had gone to sleep and died. Upon reinstalling (many times) I've never had the same luck (so I blame her :D ).

I just wonder if getting a new much more up to date monitor will help solve the problem?

Yes getting a new up to date monitor will solve the problem because when i connect my PC to my friend's monitor it works fine. And its just slightly newer than mine. Mine is an old 15" LCD Monitor, i bought it when LCDs were very expensive... now even 19" monitor is affordable but i don't have money to buy one. I don't need higher resolutions, and it works fine in Windows at 1024x768@75 Hz, i like to get the same in Mac.

Hmmm down to the shop then!

Just out of interest what monitor was your friends' ? Although I'll probably go for some Dell. my Acer is at least 5 years old.

Actually now i have tested on 2 monitors and both are working fine, i don't know the exact model but one is an unknown brand called Stalion it is 17" and the other is Samsung 19" widescreen.

Thank's!!

This works on my XFX 8500GT 512mb, with one dvi and one vga.

I had the Blank screen problem with my EVGA 8800GT 512 SC. I had problems with 8800GT before on a friends hackintosh with kalyway 10.5.2 (also updated to 10.5.3) . We solved it by downgrade to 8800GTS 320. Then we both reinstalled with iDeneb 10.5.5. That was also my last card but last week I got a good offer on the EVGA 8800GT 512 SC and so I removed Nvinject on iDeneb 10.5.5 and when I plugged the 8800GT = blank screen. I had to reinstall and I finally (5th reinstall) got it working with NVkush. I then removed it without restart and used the NVdarwin_Installer_1.2.5.mpkg . Now everything works fine :( . Hope that helps you. My hackintosh is
