  1. eVGA GeForce 8600 GT Blank screen

Actually now i have tested on 2 monitors and both are working fine, i don't know the exact model but one is an unknown brand called Stalion it is 17" and the other is Samsung 19" widescreen.
  2. eVGA GeForce 8600 GT Blank screen

Yes getting a new up to date monitor will solve the problem because when i connect my PC to my friend's monitor it works fine. And its just slightly newer than mine. Mine is an old 15" LCD Monitor, i bought it when LCDs were very expensive... now even 19" monitor is affordable but i don't have money to buy one. I don't need higher resolutions, and it works fine in Windows at 1024x768@75 Hz, i like to get the same in Mac.
  3. eVGA GeForce 8600 GT Blank screen

I tried connecting the monitor to the DVI port also using a VGA convertor, same result, screen goes blank. I think i'm very close to the solution, i found these links which make sense: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107319 http://forum.osx86scene.com/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=1286 I think i'll have to play with these files which store the resolution, refresh rate and other properties: /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.windowserver.xxxx.plist Now when i connect my PC to my friend's monitor, it works fine. What i want to know is that how Leopard identifies a Monitor ? Is there a device id for the monitor also which i can change from some plist file ? If someone can experiment with the above files and tell me the results that will be nice! If we set the resolution using "Graphics Mode" key at boot prompt or inside the com.apple.Boot.plist file its useless becuz its only valid upto the grey apple screen with spinning logo, but when the actual GUI is loaded the resolution is changed.
  4. Acer Aspire 5920G-60 8600GT

I'm having the same problem on my Core2Duo desktop PC with eVGA 8600GT 1Gb DDR2 PCI-e card. When i install NVinject or Natit, my monitor displays "frequency out of range" and display becomes blank. To avoid this, i remove Nvinject and then everything works fine, i get 1024x768 with 16 million colors but QE is disabled. I have an old 15" LCD Monitor and i'm using the VGA output. When i connect my PC to my friend's new Lcd monitor with DVI, i get the display with NVinject and QE enabled. I'm still searching for a solution to make it work on my monitor. Its very strange becuz in Windows XP, i can set any resolution and refresh rate and it still works on my monitor, so whats wrong with leopard ?
  5. Monitor Frequency Out of Range

I have eVGA GeForce 8600 GT 1Gb DDR2 PCI-e card, i'm running Kalyway 10.5.2 on my Core2Duo E6420 Lenovo desktop PC. When i install NVinject or Natit or use EFI strings, my monitor says Frequency out of range... and then no signal... and display becomes blank. When i connect it to my friend's monitor which is newer than mine, it works, i see the display. But i don't understand, my LCD monitor displays 1024x768x32@75 Mhz in Windows XP and Vista without any problems. But in Leopard the monitor displays Frequency out of Range. When i remove NVinject, it works fine but i don't get QE. I've tried hard-coding the resolution and refresh rate in com.apple.Boot file and also tried putting "Graphics Mode"="800x600x32@60" at boot prompt but nothing solves this problem. I've tried different Kernels and different AppleSMBIOS kexts but no luck. Can anyone please tell me how to fix this frequency out of range problem ?
  6. nVidia GeForce 8600 GT : EFI String

i think we're on the same boat, i'm also trying to enable QE on my eVGA 8600GT 1gb DDR2, read my post: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=109170
  7. GeForce 8600 with EFI

I've been trying for the last 3 days, i spent lots of time reading evey graphics related post here and other osx86 forums but no luck. I have several versions of Leopard which are: Kalyway 10.5.1, 10.5.2, 10.5.3, Leo4Allv2, Leo4Allv3, iATKOSr2... i tried installing each one several times and i tried different versions of AppleSMBIOS, different kernels, different versions of NVinject, Natit and NVKush but no luck. I tried my VGA port, DVI port, and TV-out port but no display. Can you do me a big favor and attach those NVidia related files from your System folder? and also your version of AppleSMBIOS.kext and your Boot.plist file
  8. GeForce 8600 with EFI

Thanx a million dude, i really really appreciate it. This link was very useful. However it didn't solve my problem. When i reboot after doing all those steps, i get a Blank screen, i.e. there is no signal in my monitor. But i know that Mac OS X is running becuz i can hear the sounds and when i click somewhere my HDD Leds start blinking... although i can't see anything on the monitor. To go back to the point where i can see my desktop, i had to boot with -s option and type rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/NVD* Now i get this in the profiler: Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT: Chipset Model: Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT Type: Display Bus: PCIe PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 512 MB Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de) Device ID: 0x0402 Revision ID: 0x00a1 ROM Revision: Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT OpenGL Engine [EFI] Displays: Display: Resolution: 1024 x 768 Depth: 32-bit Color Core Image: Software Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Quartz Extreme: Not Supported Display Connector:
  9. eVGA GeForce 8600 GT Blank screen

Thats the thing, it doesn't crash ! Only the display is blank, i.e. there is no signal in the monitor. But i know that Mac OS X is running fine becuz i can hear the sounds and when i click somewhere i can see the HDD Led blinking. So it doesn't crash, just the display is blank. I have tried Natit, NVinject and NVKush, i get the same result with all of them. I have Core2Duo E6420 processor, eVGA GeForce 8600 GT 1Gb DDR2 graphics card running Kalyway 10.5.2 vanilla kernel, i've tried different AppleSMBIOS-27 which includes iMac, Macbook, Mac Pro BIOS. Then i updated to 10.5.3 hoping that it will solve the problem, but the same result, no signal in the monitor after the spinning apple logo.
  10. GeForce 8600 with EFI

I successfully installed PC_EFI v8 using this guide: http://forum.osx86scene.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=2520 I heard that we can use GeForce 8600 GT card without using NVinject / Natit if we have PC_EFI installed. How can i do this ? I saw that there is a folder called "pc_efi_6_bootloaders" which contains a file called "boot_gf8600". How can i install this file ?
  11. eVGA GeForce 8600 GT Blank screen

I have eVGA GeForce 8600 GT, i'm running Leopard 10.5.2 (Kalyway). When i install NVInstaller V.41 or NVKush, i get a blank screen, i.e. there is no signal on the monitor. I tried using the property editor to edit the NVCAP settings in the NVInject but it didn't solve the problem. So i removed the NVinject. Can anyone please give me a solution ? This is currently what i have: Type: Display Bus: PCIe PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 32 MB Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de) Device ID: 0x0402 Revision ID: 0x00a1 Displays: Display: Resolution: 1024 x 768 Depth: 32-bit Color Core Image: Software Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Quartz Extreme: Not Supported
  12. iMovie Problem

iMovie and other video editing softwares require a feature called "Quartz Extreme" to be enabled. Its something like DirectX on windows. Even though you are getting 16 million colors and 1024x768 resolution, you will find that its only using a generic driver. Unless the proper driver (kext) file is loaded, this feature will not be enabled. Go to "About this Mac > More Info > Graphics / Displays", you will find something like this: Display: Type: Display Bus: PCIe PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 32 MB Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de) Device ID: 0x0402 Revision ID: 0x00a1 Displays: Display: Resolution: 1024 x 768 Depth: 32-bit Color Core Image: Software Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Quartz Extreme: Not Supported You can read this post to see how it can be enabled (good luck) http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=94090
  13. Best Applesmbios replacement for Applications

This is a very good question !! In addition to this, i also want to know what is the difference between these kernels: sleepkernel speedstepkernel nforcekernel modbinkernel vanillakernel kabylkernel I wish people give a serious reply.
  14. Toast 9 Titanium Problem

I installed Toast 7.1 and it is working perfectly! Yes i don't have QE enabled, but when i install NVInstaller V.41, i get a blank screen.
  15. Toast 9 Titanium Problem

I have eVGA GeForce 8600 GT 1Gb DDR2. I installed NVInstallerV.41.pkg and selected 768 for memory option, After reboot, it gives me blank screen. Any ideas how to fix this ? or how to remove the driver? I had to take it out and use the built-in Intel GMA 3000 graphics card so atleast i can see my desktop
