vbetts
The mod was done with an Galaxy 9600GSO with 8 mem chips (2 are disable), they flashed an 8800gt bios, and by doing so, it enables the 2 mem chips (512Mb total), 256Bit mem controller and the 128 shaders(8800GTS). Galaxy 9600GSO Original Galaxy 9600GSO crossflashed as 8800GT Now though, this can only be done with certain models. Namely the 9600GSOs that aren't on the standard configuration of the 8800GS/9600GSO. The only thing that is needed for it, is a 9600GSO with 8 memory chips, standard configuration is 6 memory chips, the extra 2 make it possible for this. Synaesthesia
No, the 9600GSO is a G92 chip, the lowest-end one yet. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/108035-9600gso-flashed-to-8800gt/#findComment-766300 Share on other sites

vbetts
Does it work with the GTS? Didn't hear that one. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/108035-9600gso-flashed-to-8800gt/#findComment-770166 Share on other sites
bigboss
So then basically its on par with the 9800GTX after this flash? I guess nVidia will have to start laser engraving the die again (assuming thats still viable with the new architecture) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/108035-9600gso-flashed-to-8800gt/#findComment-771372 Share on other sites
vbetts
No. Why would it be? The 8800 GT isn't. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/108035-9600gso-flashed-to-8800gt/#findComment-771408 Share on other sites
bigboss
No. Why would it be? The 8800 GT isn't. 256-bit G92 with 128 stream processors... those are the same specs as the G92 8800GTS and the 9800GTX (along with slightly higher shader, gpu and mem clocks) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/108035-9600gso-flashed-to-8800gt/#findComment-771577 Share on other sites
