Blue-K
Hi everybody. I've installed Leo4all on my external LaCie Mobile Disk 80 GB. The Video and the Sound works great. But there's a big problem. I launched a ISO/DMG-File in Leopard. Everything works great now, but during the Install, my Laptop shuts down without a warning. Bam, black screen. The Laptop turns off (no power). I tried to boot many times with cpus=1 and idlehalt=0 but this doesn't work. It shuts down when it wants, it's always different. Sometimes when I open too many Apps, sometimes during a install, sometimes when Leopard simply runs. So, look at this Image, I've made it on my desktop...now It's clear..its overheating... So, how can I fix that? It must go fast, becuase the Temp is very fast too hot... My Hardware: -Acer Aspire 5715Z -Mobile Intel® 965 Express Chipset Family (448 MB) -Intel® Pentium® Dual CPU T2310 @ 1.46GHz, 1463 MHz -Mat{censored}a DVD-RAM UJ-850S ATA Device -CPU Typ Mobile DualCore Intel Pentium T2310, 1466 MHz (11 x 133) -Motherboard Name: Acer Aspire 5715Z -Motherboard Chip: Intel Crestline-GML GL960 -Ram: 2037 MB (DDR2-667 DDR2 SDRAM) -BIOS Typ Insyde (10/15/07) -supports x86, x86-64, MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3 -External 80GB LaCie Mobile Disk Many thanks in Advance!!! CrArC
There's not much to go on here. Maybe you should peek at the crash reports or something? And be more specific; does black screen mean the machine turns off (no power) or just hangs on black? If your system is dying totally it may just be overheating Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/107756-overheating-of-the-laptophelp/#findComment-766733 Share on other sites
Blue-K
Many thank to CrArC for his answer. i looked at the CPU-Temp with "Temperature Monitor", and this cames out: Now it's clear, 93 C is overheating...So, I searched around here and find out, that I have to delete "AppleCPUthermo.kext", "AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext", "extensions.mkext" and "extensions.kextcache". I've only found "AppleCPUthermo.kext" and "extensions.mkext" and deleted them...but the "extensions.mkext" comes always again...Then i booted with -f...Laptop still turns off... So what can i do ? peach-os
extensions.mkext rebuilds itself always agin - that´s normal. there is nothing else you can do except deleting those kexts did you think about the simple reason: hardware malfunction? Blue-K
Many Thanks for the answers, but that didn't work. I made the following: 1. Shutdown my laptop and leave it for about 30 minutes. 2. Boot laptop and pressed FN+F4 (I've made two versions, first, I only pressed FN+F4 at the Darwin Screen, then the second I've pressed FN+F4 until the Login Screen comes...) 3. Wasn't working, so I pressed Ctrl+Alt+Delete to go back to BIOS and then do the FN+F4 command again (with the two versions...) All wasn't working, only my (unused!!!) internal HD is colder...my CPU Kerns are always too hot...but I found out, that my Laptop reboots or goes into sleep when I press FN+F4 (The screen goes black )...Strange... Anyway, I'm now downloding Ubuntu 8.04, for "play around for a minute then reboot into OS X and the fan should be running." But two Infos... 1) Ubuntu is always installed on my internal HD. 2) I've also deleted something in a AppleACPI...-Folder named as Thermal.kext or something...important to know? So, what's wrong? Please help me... Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/107756-overheating-of-the-laptophelp/#findComment-769599 Share on other sites

webterractive
I couldn't find it but I'm sure its in this forum that some dude has an app that allows you to switch off and on cores from the desktop. He uses it to switch of some cores from his quad-core cpu. Blue-K
So, the Ubuntu-Live CD doesn't worked for me... @00Diabolic ~~: I'm now browsing your Tread... @webterractive: I think this wouldn't help, because with one Core it is also too hot. Know this with booting cpus=1...But many thanks for your input. Detosx
There are two thermal kexts that you need to remove and I don't think the CPUthermo.kext is one of them. This thermal kext removal is an option durring iATKOSv2.01. Sorry, I can't remember what they are off hand but will find out for you. One of the producers of iATKOS told me in the forum to do it. Also, don't select the Vanilla kernel but the Speedstep one and the Speedstep package. Hopefully that will see a big drop in temperatures. Mine still runs hot when watching movie files but much better than before. I did read something that worried me about the gemstone range, specifically that Acer put powermanagement on Vista and that without it the laptop will overheat, that it is not suitable for Linux. I had my doubts at the time. Your laptop looks very similar to mine but yours has a bigger screen. The overheating on mine (when watching movies) occurs just to the bottom of the screen. Edit. Sorry, didn't read the post above this one so perhaps you solved the problem already. Not sure if this helps you and others but the two thermal kexts that iATKOSv2.0i gives you the option to remove are specifically AppleThermal.kext and AppleACPIThermal.kext. The biggest difference I noted was with speedstep.kernel. Haven't tried the TOH speedstep kernel fully, yet. willy782
Hello Blue-K, I found the solution here: Acer Firmware Upgrade. I own the same laptop. After upgrading to firmware v1.34, fan is working perfect with OSX. The only problem is that you must run the updater from windows vista. It was a problem for me because the first thing I did after buying it was formating the drive... Hope this helps you!
