Since I have been waiting for 10.5.3 very eagerly (too fix my problem with the nvidia drivers freezing my screen during 3D activity), I was happy to see it being finally available via software update.

It might yet be too early, but I was wondering if anyone has already (successfully) applied the update?

For infos see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1141

I can't find a link to download the update as a dgm/pkg though. Which would be helpful to investigate.

Here's the direct link:

I was planning to reinstall tonight or tomorrow and try Leo4all (opposed to my updated Kalyway 10.5.1). It'll be a good time to test the update. My guess - Its going to be trickier to install than 10.5.2 was, and will break your install if you if you run a vanilla update.

After I updated I had to uninstall the transparent menus (NOT menubar) hack in single user mode,

as the login app was hanging and causing crash dumps to be written every ten seconds or so with

no prospect of it progressing beyond the stall point.

It was saying (in the .crash file) that the symbol _kCUIVariantMenuBarOpaque was not found,

or something to that effect.

Upgraded from 10.5.2 to 10.5.3. But now I'm having trouble booting the system in AHCI mode. I had to switch from AHCI to IDE mode, to boot into os x - but the HDD is now way slower.

I get this error message during the boot:

13AppleAHCIPort is not compatible with its superclass, 10IOAHCIPort superclass changed?
Failed to load extension com.apple.driver.AppleAHCIPort.
Couldn’t alloc class “AppleAHCI”

And another thing, system profiler also crashes, and it didn't before. I have the netkas AppleSMBIOS.kext. What could be the problem?
