Juggernaut
This thread could be under installation problems but since there are so many people with the same problem it could be better to post it here since its a page thats viewed a lot and the real error isnt a install error its just a regular error. Many people are experiensing the "System config /com.apple.Boot.plist not found" error after their installation. There are many threads on this already but if we want to crack this sucker its best to get everything into one thread and work out a solution. So if anybody has this error like me, Post Here (including version and system specs of course) I'm using Mac.OS.X.Tiger.10.4.4.X86-HOTiSO which is pre-patched On a P4 1,6Ghz with a MSI845 Ultra-C Mobo Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10609-general-system-config-comapplebootplist-not-found-topic/ Share on other sites
iidabomb29
yea im on the same boat as you.....Im trying to install it on a friends laptop....i keep getting that message and it shows that the boot drive is Ethernet PXE protocol as the drive rather than showing the Apple OSX Install....kinda weird, i installed this on two other different machines and they work fine beside that toshiba laptop which is a 2.8ghz ht, 512mb ddr wireless integrated machine......i think the problem is the actual integrated wireless lan...but i dunno Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10609-general-system-config-comapplebootplist-not-found-topic/#findComment-67379 Share on other sites
altern8energy
I got it to work... had to use the 10.4.3 Disk Utility to partition the harddrive. then used the 10.4.4 install DVD. it came up ok after that.. It has to do with the 10.4.4 Disk Utility giving the partition the wrong device name. -Altern8Energy- Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10609-general-system-config-comapplebootplist-not-found-topic/#findComment-67393 Share on other sites

Cyman
OK, here is my problem. I bought a new HDD. Installing this new hard disk made it necessary that I had to reorganize the plugging of the exisitng drives. After that I wanted to copy the existing Mac OS X 10.4.4 installation via Carbon Copy Cloner to a bigger partition on the new HDD, but when I try to boot from the old OS X drive, I get the infamous "/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist not found" error. Why is this happening and how can I circumvent this in order to boot into Mac OS X just as before? I would be glad if someone could help me. Thx in advance. Cyman
As I still struggle with the upmentioned problem, I want to add the following: when hitting F8 I can select the hard disk to start from (actually only one of them contains Mac OS X), but none of the available options helps. Whether I start normally or be it with -x, -v or -s, I either get to the grey Apple screen (without the spinning wheel) or after seeing all these command lines in -s the screen turns black and nothing happens. What could be the cause of this and what the solution to the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. bofors
I think this problem may be related to a slight incompatibility with certain DVD drives. I suggest that you try to work around your drive by somehow using a different one or attempting to install without a DVD drive as detailed here: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=18401 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10609-general-system-config-comapplebootplist-not-found-topic/#findComment-120556 Share on other sites
Cyman
I don't know how, but I managed to boot my OS X installation from within VMWare. Unbfortunately this only worked once. In native mode, it wouldn't work at all, repairing permissions also didn't help although in first place I thought this was it. I am still trying to find out what is the cause of the errors - if I can't, I have to copy everything and reinstall 10.4.4. Right now I have installed 10.4.6 in VMWare and I set up my 10.4.4 drive so I can access the data on it. paulee
I have been struggling all morning with this message having changed a few things on my machine and finally tracked it down to what appears to be a timing issue in the Phoenix bios on the machine I was using. I got fed up with entering my supervisor password and so reset it - on doing so I was unable to boot off any dvd or HD with OSX installed - always got the "system config file ' /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.boot.plist' not found" message. Re-enabling the supervisor password has re-enabled OSX!!! Bizzare - I am guessing it is some wierd timing issue in the bios. On a second note I've noticed the bios on this Acer Aspire 9300 is very "un" configurable - it clearly has a setting inside that is setting the USB up to support legacy devices (floppy discs etc) - and so as a result I am unable to attach any USB storage devices to the machine. Has anyone seen anything similar and knows a way round it...? Paul. biteme666
Oh, there is *DEFINITELY* a timing thing... What I've found is that if I press the PAUSE button during post, count to 10, and press SPACE, it works. If I fail to pause it, it gives that error. Same machine, acer aspire 9300. Haven't yet got a *full* boot on it, but working on it one problem at a time.... getting some kernel crash. koolboy87
just flash-press F8 right after the appearing of your laptop logo at the boot times, then evreything will be normal. I found out this resolving by myself 6 months ago, after a couples weeks being crazy with it, posted couple comments around here with pics attached, then finally gave the resolving. but it seemed no one focused on it. actually, it is still not a perfect way of booting, either booting to installer and OS after installing. so i am not so sure if it would cause any problem to the installing camp. regard, Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10609-general-system-config-comapplebootplist-not-found-topic/#findComment-961582 Share on other sites
