tehsusenoh
I have: kalyway 10.5.1 and 10.5.2 iatkos 1.0i and 2.0i leo4all v2 and v3 But I don't know which one to choose. I already have a 10.4.9 uphuck install working perfectly and want to upgrade (not technically upgrading though). I showed my friend how to do this and he has leo4allv3 working perfectly but I really don't know what to do. ~jakeb EDIT: Of course I forgot the specs: Pentium4 3ghz AzeliaAudio (works in tiger) Via Rhine III ethernet (works in tiger) GeForce 7200GS 256mb video card (works with natit 0.2 on tiger) Intel chipset 915i Those are all the specs that seem to be important Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/104709-dont-know-what-distro-to-use/ Share on other sites
tehsusenoh
Anyone? I hate double posting. I need to get this done tonight... Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/104709-dont-know-what-distro-to-use/#findComment-745715 Share on other sites
Gujal
I presume your Pentium 4 3GHz is Prescott core meaning SSE3 support. If that is the case, iAtkos 2i should be the best suited one for your machine. If your P4 is northwood core it wont support SSE3 and you should try Leo4all v3 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/104709-dont-know-what-distro-to-use/#findComment-745741 Share on other sites
tehsusenoh
My processor does support SSE3, but when I try to boot iATKOS 2i, fails at the kernel part. I just installed leo4all, but I just get a "waiting for root device" thing. Balto
Yes, I've heard from quite a number of places that Leo4All works on P4s. As for the "waiting for root devices"... What type of hard disc are you using for this install... SATA or PATA? Anyhow, try disabling some on board hardware like LAN using BIOS and then try rebooting. tehsusenoh
It is a SATA Hard Drive (WesternDigital 500GB) I'm going to try kalyway to see what happens though. I'll keep you posted. Restarting now... Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/104709-dont-know-what-distro-to-use/#findComment-745853 Share on other sites
Ayce
Hi all, I just joined after reading several posts, and noticed no one else is using the same system specs as me. The Abit IP35 E/Pro is close, though. I'm in the same boat as jakeb as far as deciding which "distro" to get. Currently downloading, very slowly, Leo4allv3. The main difference I have seen in my setup,(see sig) as opposed to others, is my current HDD setup. I have noticed that most are trying to dual boot from a single drive, but I was advised to avoid it, by several sources. My plan is to partition the secondary IDE drive for use with Leopard, while retaining another partition for "common" files that will be used by both OS's. I plan to install a fresh copy of XP on the primrary SATA HDD (once I get it ) but for now I'll use my current XP drive. Any crits, good or bad, gratefully appreciated. robio376
Kalyway 10.5.2 is probably the way you want to go until iATKOS V2.0 is released. Most of the drivers are there, you just have to figure out what will make your system run. tehsusenoh
Results: iATKOS - Doesn't even boot from DVD Leo4all - Installs and partially boots, but gets the "waiting for root device thing" Kalyway - Installs and boots perfectly - My VIA Rhine III doesn't work and I can't control volume on the sound @Ayce Thank you for the good grammar! I looked at the specs in your siggy, and I think most distros will work for you. Start with Leo4All, then goto Kalyway and last iATKOS. Ayce
I got Leo4allv3 last night, finally. Once I figure out how to put it all on DVD, I'll try it. LOL I'm assuming I would unrar the iso's them burn them to DVD. tehsusenoh
By iso's i hope you mean iso. There is only one, and all you have to do is open the first rar file (*whatever*.part1.rar) and extract. It will automatically extract from all the rars, as long as they are in the same folder. Ayce
Yeah, that's what I meant, iso. (That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/104709-dont-know-what-distro-to-use/#findComment-747282 Share on other sites
tehsusenoh
Remember that when you install Leopard that you choose chipset drivers. I'm pretty sure ICH7 needs drivers. I have ICH6, so no drivers are needed. Any news on my network problems? I want to the update software on my hackint0sh.
