applehacker
Hi. I am a student at a Henrico County HS in Virginia (ya know, the one with the ibook stampede) I work at the computer help desk at school, and we STILL have some old g3's lying around. I asked my boss if I could buy one, and he said maybe. I want to know if there is a way to install Leopard on a g3. What do I have to do? I have a hackintosh, but not a perfect one. What modifications do I have to do to the laptop/ leo disk to get it to install? Thanks! ^_^
Need more information about the ibookG3, Which version are talking about here? But from my experience on my several attempt on a few of my old g3s and g4s, It is not worth leopard, too slow and buggy. Tiger is better. applehacker
Its the dual USB version, dont know clock speed. I heard I could overclock it with icooked. I want to try anyway. Here is my school's official list: White iBook, Power PC G3 • Operating System 10.2.8 • Installed with AppleWorks version 6.2.9 only • CPU Speed: 500 MHz • Memory: 320 MB • Hard drive: 10G • CD-ROM drive • Screen: 12.1 inches • AC charger • Built-in 10/100 Base-TX • Wireless card — IEEE 802.11 • FireWire 400 • Two 12 Mbps USB ports The only thing though, is that I remeber Panter on it (10.3) Should I try to do a hackintosh install? (MoC)
It would be way to slow if you install Leopard or Tiger for that matter on a G3. It would be a bad investment in the end unless you make it run Linux. vaporATX
Yeah, I'd put linux (or better yet a bsd variant) and a lightweight window manager. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/103960-ibook-g3/#findComment-741585 Share on other sites
SDRacer48
Panther runs decently on those G3s, but only if they are maxed out at 640MB of Ram. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/103960-ibook-g3/#findComment-741600 Share on other sites
