boiddude
OK 10.4.3 works just fine on my system. It is just after the system POSTs that it hangs and the harddrive goes crazy. Actually it is like the POST doesn't fully finish. I did do the Darwin boot method and the other method to set up the darwin boot loader but it just gets to the same part. I was able to boot up to windows using the darwin cd boot method so at least the machine is usable. Still wish I could find out what is going on. I would think that the system could support the X800 or since the 10.4.3 does I might have to move that video driver over if it already is not in the extensions. Might anyone know why the harddisk light just turns on solid when it tries to boot? Should I give it longer then the 5 min that I have to boot or should it at least go to the blank black screen with that hyphen spinning to be successful? Juggernaut
Hi everybody! I'm having the same crappy bar in the top flashing and the same crappy System config /com.apple.Boot.plist not found error message. I tried different things like the rd=disk0s1 command but it still gave the same error. I tried the Boot Magic thing and it didn't work. Does anybody have any ideas? Im using 10.4.4 on a 1.6Ghz P4 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10265-read-booting-after-fresh-install-1044-or-1045/page/2/#findComment-66411 Share on other sites
durex
Great work here Jared. Hoping you could help me clear something up before following your advice, as Im recieving the same errors here. Ok.. so Ive got a few HDD's in my comp- the Primary ATA HDD is 1 large Partition, which is solely used for Windows, but Ive also got a brand new SATA drive that Ive set to boot to after my DVD-RW drive, instead of the drive which Windows resides on when trying to boot into my fresh 10.4.4 Install. Question is, if I follow your instructions, how do I know what the device name is? Anyway to verify this prior to doing this? Also (and most importantly) will this method have any effect on my Windows drive? In other words, will I still be able to boot to it after doing this when making it the drive to boot to after my DVD-RW instead of the one OSX resides on. Hope this makes sense and thanks a bunch in advance! Psyched to get this running! benson
@ Which device.... shell <return> @shell (you'll need to know what disk you're going to be using, for me and I hope everyone its disk0) fdisk -u /dev/rdisk0 <return> y <return> fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0 <return> print <return> (this is to find which volume your HFS+ is, for me its 1) flag 1 <return> write <return> quit <return> reboot <return>(take out the CD) If i'm using multiple partitions on the same disk, how would I modify this to work? I've got the same issue with 10.4.4. Also, what do I put in place of "Which device...."? Thanks. gabemcg
I just performed a fresh install (10.4.4 MaxPatched DVD)on the 8gb hd I pulled out of my xbox, everything went smoothly. I'm running into the same problem here, it seems I'm without a bootloader on that drive I downloaded the Darwine ISO as instructed, but whenever I try to burn the CD, Nero Crashes, any Ideas? I also tried to find this Hiren's Boot CD, and I find the website, but no link for a D/L... any tips??? gabemcg
Yeah, burn it inside OSX d'oh! Talk about a paradox... geez! I'm going to try teh metod posted as successful by another member: -erase the drive -format with disk util -quit disk util -quit installation -restart -install -restart -pray... I'm not holding on to much hope for this method, as the only thing I'm doing different is restarting after formatting and before installation, but who knows, right? Also, the installer has not been able to reboot my system... I click, "restart" and the cursor goes away, and I get the little spinny thing, but it never shutsdown, it just keeps spinning... any Ideas what the deal is with that??? thanks for all the help... 1tym
I too am having problems. After a fresh install and then choosing RESTART or SHUTDOWN, the computer freezes. After that, when i try to hard reset my machine, it doesn't boot properly and freezes in the middle somewhere. New at this, so not sure exactly what the problem could be. System Sepcs: MSI 945G Neo-F Intel Pentium-D 920 Dual Core OCZ DDR2667 GOLD EL 2GB Dual Channel Kit Quantum 13GB PATA HD (formatted to Mac Extended (journaled) Not really sure if this problem was discussed previously, but I can't find it with the search... Hopefully someone can help me, cause I'm a noob here... NET
1. for the people with dual boot - install the 10.4.4 afther that go to windows install grub for windows put there the proper booting info: -------------------------------------------------------------------- timeout 50 splashimage (hd0,0)/Grub/OSX.xpm.gz title XP at (hd0,0) root (hd0,0) chainloader +1 boot title OSX at (hd0,1) root (hd0,1) chainloader +1 boot ----------------------------------------------------------------- install grub into the mbr and make the windows volume active, when you choose to boot OSX from the grub it will give you the Darvin's bootloader afther pressing enter you should see the possible slices to boot (or yiu can give the rd=diskXXX thru f8 if you want) taht will give a solution for booting without install dvd in the dvd drive. for me it's working, but i do not have the "MacOSX 10.4.4DVD Final ppf with 10.4.5 update" (i have already patched the 10.4.4 restore dmg with 10.4.4 patcher i can only see "the bott error splash" (the 10.4.4 with 10.4.5 patch is only avaible on deamons and i cant download it) Most important is that 10.4.4 is booting as well as the 10.4.3 was with the grub installed.
