I do remember that Colonel was working on an OSx86 Upgrade Advisor (like the Vista Upgrade Advisor) for Windows that tells if your hardware is compatible. I think he is not working on it anymore, it was in a post on his blog but I can't find it anymore.

What Dell model??

SticMAN

SATA Hard Drive

I bought my computer from Dell so I assume I have an Intel motherboard. According to wikipedia it's a Foxconn Motherboard though.

Which version of OSX86 would you recommend? Kalyway 10.5.2?

I just didn't want to fork out for the OSX if I'm not at least a little confident it would run on my machine. I seem to have all covered up but as it's my first time building a machine to run OSX I'm not quite sure. What do you think of the specs I posted above? Does it look like it could work? Thanks.

Every newbie should learn to do some research. Listen, I don't want to be harsh here or anything, and don't take this offensively (its just a little tip), but you have to RESEARCH. Could you imagine the chaos in this forum if every new member asked the same question you did "Will my x computer run OS X?". Your question has been asked a million times before.

If you had researched you might have figured out that your motherboard is fully compatible and that your video card is compatible too. So next time, research (and make your own topic if you are gonna ask a question!)

Thanks :|

This is the thing, I did research and I already knew the mobo, graphics card, driver etc are compatible. I was more looking for a final opinion as to what else would/could I need before installing OSX. :|

I also want to have a dual boot with XP.

Having never built a machine to run OSX I guess it's natural to have some insecurity. Or is the forum just to post results but not to ask for help? I guess I have done as much as I could without the help of more experienced people. The hardware part was easy to research. The last bit to finalize it for instalation is what is being difficult.

But I have downloaded your guide in the link you posted and will give it a try and report back. Thanks for the link.

By the way, not hurt feelings at all.

Thanks for understanding -_- It's just that we've gotten the same question asked so many times before that it serves no other purpose than junking up the forum, because people don't even spare a look at this kind of question :(

Good luck!

My IDE DVD drives work fine...

I second that..

I don't have much experience but here's what I know.

As far as I know, All your really need in order to install os X is to be able to support SSE3 (or SSE2) and your processeur clearly support it, you could even double check using a software called cpuz

I installed Kalyway 10.5.2 two-three days ago on my old and pathetic computer with these specs:

Pentium 4 3.2ghz

I'm not quite sure about the mobo.. it says P4, I don't know more.

IDE dvd drive

IDE hdd

2x 512mb ram @ 400mhz (DDR)

INTERNAL gfx

and I installed kalyway without a problem..

but now.. I can't find the drivers for my ridiculously obsolete internal graphic.. and I can't install the drivers for my M-Audio Audiophile 2496 sound card.

So.. I believe Kalyway 10.5.2 is easy to install on most PC, however, it is not garanteed to work completely with all your hardware. Just try it. and if it doesn't work.. wait until you update your hardware and buy compatible stuff!
