Well, I'm having some trouble. My keyboard and mouse both worked fine in 10.4.1. Even power management showed up slightly (battery information was available). Sound SHOULD work (AC97) but doesn't.. That is ok for the moment, I'm more annoyed by this:

The lack of keyboard and mouse.

I can install 4.3 and use it just fine, but with an external keyboard and mouse. If I stop and start ApplePS2Controller.kext I regain my keyboard on my laptop, but not the mouse. As well, it doesn't work if I throw some lines into /etc/rc to restart the extension so I at least have a keyboard.. but I need both.

I need some ideas. Or some information past searching. I can't find anybody who has had the same trouble as me and has posted a fix or even a reply to threads that they spoke of it on.

I can't just copy over the 10.4.1 kext, it states something isn't compatible. So, any thoughts?

Yea I have the same problem....

I wish I could help. I have a VGN-T150, the really tiny one.

Same thing it worked in 10.4.1. I cant even install 10.4.3 for some reason it gets to the white apple loading screen and gives me a circle with a line thru it. Now I try 10.4.4 and no Keyboard and Mouse. :happymac:

Any help would be apreciated.

That is becoz ur PS/2 controller was supported in 10.4.1 and not in 10.4.3..

I can suggest a way 2 make it work, but am not sure..

Boot into Windows xp. Install Macdrive software and access your Mac partition..

navigate to /system/library/extensions and copy the ApplePS2Controller.kext from your 10.4.1 image here.

Delete Extensions.kextcache and Extensions.mkext in /system/library/ directory..

Reboot in Mac..

I tried the same trick for something else and it worked..

So Best of Luck!!

Anyone try this out and see if it works? I got a VGN-T350P but the keyboard and mouse doesn't work either. The only way I got it to boot was to plug in a USB Keyboard and mouse. I rather try to get the touchpad and onboard keyboard to work.

Hi, I have the same problem with a Sony VAIO-Z1SP (3 years old, maybe a MacBook Pro soon? :P).

I try to install OS 10.4.5 with a DVD, the installation don't recognize the touchpad (so I plug an USB mouse), and it don't recognize the laptop keyboard.

If you told me "install the OS with an external USB keyboard and make the replacement of the file ApplePS2Controller.kext" then it's perfect (until the next bug :()

So : Does someone try this? Does someone can give the ApplePS2Controller.kext of the 10.4.1 version please?

Thanks very much, Mac OS X rulez ;)

10.4.1 kexts don't work

from what i searched only 10.4.3 kexts work with 10.4.5

so if you have them zip'em up and post'em right here

Thanks

I don't have the 10.4.3 kexts, but I still have the 10.4.1 kext!

Here you go!

ApplePS2Controller.kext.zip

Anyone find a fix for this yet? It was working fine for me for a little bit in 10.4.5 but just suddenly stopped working and I had to use USB keyboard and mouse. I just did a clean install with Jas' 10.4.6 but the laptop keyboard never works and the trackpad works until I press a key on the laptop keyboard. Kinda defeats the purpose of me putting this on my laptop :).

Lets talk about some more solutions then. We have a large number of people who have the same problem. What has everyone tried to get the trackpad to work?

I've tried loading the modified PS2_Controller.kext, which I believe worked temporarily, but later stopped. Has anyone with a VAIO notebook had success loading BOTH the trackpad and keyboard in 10.4.3+?

My solutution was to reinstall 10.4.3 on my laptop, keyboard and trackpad works without additional tricks.

What type of trackpad/touchpad are you using on your Acer notebook?

I'm using an ALPS widescreen trackpad for vaio through the PS/2 port. Its odd, it worked in 10.4.1, but does not work at all in 10.4.3+

So, i'm sticking with 10.4.6 and hoping to find a way to get the trackpad to be recognized. Any other Sony VAIO S series (SZ excluded, sorry different chipsets etc.) want to help get trackpad support?

I almost thought I was going to get the 10.4.3 keyboard thing to replace. Why hasen't this problem been solved. Everyone has the answer but no one has really written an easy way to replace the keyboard thing. Please someone just post the 10.4.3 kext and tell me how to replace it. I will forever be indebted to you!!!!!!

hm I do not know if this of any help, but till yesterday I never had these problems with my Toshiba Laptop. I have been using the .4 DVD with the .5 update included (chosable during inistall, which I always did). Then JaS 10.4.6 Updater. Yesterday I installed USB Overdrive to enable double click for my external mouse, and both the trackpad and the keyboard stopped working. Even uninstalling that App didn't do any good, and none of the various "tricks" mentioned here in the forum worked.

I never succeeded in getting any version other than the mentioned .4 DVD with the .5 update to work on my laptop, anyway, so maybe you guys ought to give another version a try.
