Ahhh; that makes sense... I just shut off the PC when I'm not using it. It doesn't take that long to boot.

Btw,

I am installing now... I had some issues getting EFI to work; the last command:

dd if=./guid/boot0 of=/dev/disk0 bs=400 count=1

kept saying that the disk wasn't found. Yet all the other commands worked just fine, I had to reboot a couple of times, but I don't know... I have "6 minutes left" so if it doesn't work, to hell with EFI.I've tried reading through everyones instructions, and I'm not messing with installing tiger and installing leo 4 times to get this to work.

I tried the simple USB stick and use terminal in the Setup DVD...

Ehh.

Edit:

Yeah; EFI didn't work...I got the b0 error...

And when I got it to load, GeekBench detected it as a Hackintosh.

So no go...Oh well; I don't need EFI, waste of my time to try and get it to work.

Geekbench score @ 3891 though...

XBench @ 197.97

A much improvement. The restart doesn't work. I haven't tried shutdown yet...

Really; it's working... Haha. I don't know how, but it does. And I just did a install without messing with the EFI stuff. So I don't know.

Sound is working; awesome, thank you AppleHDAPatcher....

Restart isn't working. Eh, oh well... I have a button for that.

That's the kernel talking. Did you install from Kalyway? You already have EFI installed if that's the case. Believe me, vanilla kernel isn't possible without EFI emulation. You can see if you do have EFI by looking in device tree.

Yeah; when I go to the About this Mac, and goto Hardware, it says EFI there. So it's working. It's working really well.

Shutdown works; so I don't care about restart.

And most importantly; VMWare Fusion is working... My goal has been completed.

This thing is SCREAMING fast; and awesome.

Another question for you; I have the same sound card, the Creative one you have listed in your Sig. Do the drivers you have for it allow 5.1 surround, or just normal?

There are no drivers for the sound card, at least not to my knowledge. I'm using ALC888. Anyways, I think what you're seeing in the hardware section is the AppleSMBIOS boot rom. You need to go to the device tree in IORegistryExplorer to really see what's going on.

Hey, I'm also looking for a good board to start with, I think it will be the Gigabyte GS-P35-DS4 or GS-EP35-DS4 (whats the difference?). Does anyone know if OC works with that board and vanilla kernel? Then I could just buy a cheap E2140 and overclock it to 3200MHz.

do you mean the GA-P35-DS4 and GA-EP35-DS4?

if so the difference between both rev2.1 is the bios get GA-EP35-DS4 if you can.

OC works in my case, i tried it for fun but have if back to normal now.

So i can't say in the long run, but it works.

But you can by P35 and upgrade the BIOS to EP35 if you have hardware rev. 2.1

I did it for my P35-DS3P. (Anyway there was already the EP Bios when i bought it!!)
