Berzerker
If you want better performance, you'll need a 7200RPM hard drive. Other than that, all you'll get is more space. I've upgraded my 120GB stock to this 200GB 7200RPM 16MB cache hard drive: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/SEAGATE%20OWC/ST9200420ASG/ Measly little $125 for that kind of an upgrade. vaporATX
I installed one of the WD drives and one of the Samsung drives in customer's MBP for them. Work just fine... no issues. The only difference I saw was the WD drive was quieter. Rufus T. Firefly
I would attempt this but i'm worried that I'd seriously mess up a 1700 laptop Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/100192-western-digital-320gb-on-mbp/#findComment-720214 Share on other sites
bigboss
Apple considers it an involved procedure but in truth it only requires minor surgery. Check ifixit.com for instructions on how to do it. Please note however that by doing this you are VOIDING your warranty. vaporATX
I would attempt this but i'm worried that I'd seriously mess up a 1700 laptop I wouldn't suggest you attempt unless you've done it before if you MBP is still in warranty. It is quite easy, but why void your warranty? Just get a nice 2.5 external Firewire enclosure, pop in one of those 320 drives, and drop it in your laptop bag to store all those big files on. They weigh next to nothing and you can use it with multiple computers. I have three. One in my laptop bag for personal storage, one usb2 one it my road kit for imaging customers hard drives and storing all my repair utils, and one that I take out of the safe deposit box monthly and do backups of all my critical data. Handy little buggers. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/100192-western-digital-320gb-on-mbp/#findComment-720412 Share on other sites
