i use utorrent and patched win xp sp2 so that it permits more halfopen connections, played with some settings in utorrent (max connection 10.000 and max connections per torrent 5000) and LIMIT THE UPLOAD TO 13 kb/s (that's the perfect setting for me: when i upload more, my downloads will be slower cauze i use more bandwitch, and when i upload less, the network thinks that i'm a profit taker and limits my download)) and port forwarding ofcourse

with those settings i get an avarage download speed of 150 kiloBYTES/s (and my connection is 3000 kiloBITS/s). with the very popular torrents i get even my max download speed of 350 kiloBYTES/s!!!!

certainly use utorrent, because that is simply the best program (i have the highest speeds with utorrent)

Well its normal to go that slow... Because you are connected to people you aren't even downloading or uploading from. I'm on a 16mbps pipeline and I top at 450-500KPBS When i was on a 6mbps it toped at 250KBPS. There are thing you can do to speed up your internet. Like when I bought a new modem I also bought new splitters and wire. Because normally the internet company's give you a low power splitter. Which will slow down your internet. I went from 6mbps to 16mbps. Sometime it runs at 8 or 9 MBPS but it is still faster.

WOW! THANK YOU! I started using Azureus and enabled encryption. Download speed jumped up to about 70/Kbps on a torrent that barely even worked in Transmission.

Thanks Again

If anyone knows of any other ways to make torrents faster, please feel free to reply.

no problem, that means that your isp is throttling your internet, which is bad, because when you hop on torrents your useable bandwith drops quite a bit :s and they go slow, glad that was the fix =]

its idiots like you that ruin the whole torrent scene. when you LIMIT YOUR UPLOAD you are being greedy and not seeding at the amount you should be slowing down everyone else while you sit in your chair grinning at the download speeds you are getting. please dont be a jerk and limit your upload.

I will admit, I use auto-speed in Az. I have the lowest tier VZ (768/128) DSL, so auto-speed locks uploads at 14k ish. I've seen 18K,once. I only use auto-speed because my sister "needs" to see her dubbed narouto eposdes on YouTube. ^_^

Now that's off my chest, try reading up on the Az wiki. There's a lot of other stuff that could be of interest to you. This is just my :2cents: ,but try the CVS plugin. The betas are stable and I swear, they sometimes increase performance.

BTW,Welcome to the frog. It's safer here.

Man, i do this because otherwise i'm uploading at 50 kb/s and i'm downloading at 10!! do you think bandwitch is free? and i do this to have my file faster. When i have my file i always unlimit the uploads and upload until i uploaded more then i downloaded. Do you really think i'm that stupid to ruin the bestest way to get files in the world?

Bittorent works best when upload & download speeds are adjusted according to your available bandwidth.

Limiting upload speed should not be about "getting more for less" - and this would not work anyhow, as low upload makes you less attractive as a peer, and hence will slow your download speed.

There are numerous faq's about settings and how they should be. The reason ratio is counted is because this is the fundament of how the protocol works.. if you are uploading less in total than you are downloading, you are essentially breaking the system (unless, of course, there are no leechers to seed to) . It is those who seed more than they leech (which we all should be doing) that provide the extra slack or buffer for everyone else.

If, as in most domestic connections, your upload speed is lower than your download, you simply have to seed for longer after completion. an optimal setting will give the most speed in both directions for a given bandwidth, and usually it is only symmetrical connections that should have both directions unlimited.

so, in short, with an asymmetrical connection, as with so much in life, too much is as bad as too little, and it is the *right amount* of upload speed that gives the best results.
