Network with a Win XP

Hello,

So much forums and the question I have seems to not fit quite good in anyone of them, so sorry if I still post on the wrong place....

It's simple: one Mac OS X 10.4 with LAN connection to a XP box. Browsing the Mac isn't a problem. I didn't managed to find a solution logging on the Mac without authorizing myself, but anyway. The thing is that the other way around - browsing the XP from the Mac - is a mystery for me. Could you please assist me with some help?

Thank you in advance!

Say the IP address of Windows is 192.168.1.20.

Make sure Finder is the active app. Under Go on the menu bar, click on Connect to Server...

Type in "smb://192.168.1.20" and click Connect.

There you go! :)

wow! That simple it was, you say.

Is there a chance to browse the Mac from the XP without the need of authorizing?

Thanx, mate!

i always use manually assigning ip address for the lan card even in osx.

sayXP is 192.168.0.17 ( netmask is 255.255.255.0 nameserver is 192.168.0.16 gateway is 192.168.0.16)

my mac is 192.168.0.16( netmask is 255.255.255.0 nameserver is 192.168.0.16 gateway is 192.168.0.16)

then after apply the ip change to the mac lan card, i can use the finder to browse XP directly, no smb:// typing needed :D

when asking for a password, there is a option like "remember password", just check it), and then you won't be asked for password anymore
