Sorry to be a smart ass but : MacBook :)

I was on the look out for a laptop that would work well with osx as my gateway wouldn't cut it. So I spent a little more and got this (used student discount)

refurb macbooks are only 800 now too

edit: i suppose thats only for a core duo not a c2d.. but still damn cheap, and very worth it in my opinion

actually the other way around,... the 13.3" is to small,

no pci express slot, the basic one, does not even have a burner,.... and 512k

even the 15" does not have 1680x1050 res,

does it work most of the time fanless ?? quiet ?

got a bunch of DVD-RAM,... is that working with 5x media, wonder if it will read the 12x ?

and where to get the matte screen ?

for most parts my dell 6000 laptop working 2ghz, it's even faster than my desktop celeron D 3.3ghz,

raw conversion 20D files , desktop 11 sec, laptop 7sec, go figure,...

so unless I get both cores, on a core duo working, it don't make sense to upgrade,...

heard, something in the brew,.... with a sub 1k, amd apple,... and also with Dell,...

probably not till spring,summer 07' ,......

Imac's cool, but double the price, + you got buy external enclosures, for all the extra stuff,....

top priority for os86,....

laptop both cores working,....

laptop fan control

laptop battery monitor

laptop fan control , speedstep,

still , nobody else, got core duo working on a laptop ?

thanks, Rob

I agree, unless you want an ultraportable. the macbook feels like a few bricks... too damn heavy.

I tried to start a petition and bounty to get our kernel haxors to fix the dual core issue. Anyone wants to contribute?

hello rschultz,

i think if you posted in the Homebrew part of this forum, you might get more helpful responses... surely there are lots of people running both cores, only certain systems have problems.

Myself, I just ordered a Asus Barbones Laptop and will have it up and running next week.

With no offence to the MacBook-lovers, I agree totally with your aversion to certain MacBook shortcomings... as much as I love OSX I also intend to use the Laptop mostly as an XP machine, so I hope to get the best of both worlds with the Asus Barebones with Core 2 Duo (T7200) and Gforce7600 (important: 256 MB!).

You should not, however, expect to get things like PCExpress-Card slots working on Hackintosh at this stage, you know... great for things like eSATA, which is why I'll stick to XP for heavy-duty stuff.

good luck +

greetinz, n.m.

sorry to disappoint you ninetto but as far as I know there are NO confirmed dual core Core (2) Duo lappies out there (apart from Apple's of course).

Can someone confirm one working?

Wellllllll, there is this one on the Wiki:

*****************************

DELL Inspiron 9400 / E1705

- OS: JaS 10.4.8 SSE3 with mifki kernel or semthex kernel (Jas new new Patched 10.4.8 SSE3 DVD)

- Intel Core Duo 2x2,16 Ghz, 2 GB DDR2, 80GB (A02,A03,A04 BIOS) - 'working

******************************

But I admit you're right, it seems like this, if true, would be a rare success... From what I have read, this is almost DEFINITELY a Bios issue. I have seen that many manufacturers are too lazy-slow to provide the right BIOS even for Windows. ASUS, for example, didn't have the right Bios for memrom on many of its machines.

Hopefully, this will just be a matter of time until someone finds the right tweak. Til then, well even one duo-core is pretty damn fast!

HP Pavilion DV8000T:

Never had a problem in running with both cores. Just one thing: since I began using 8.8.1, I can no longer switch between 1-CPU and 2-CPU mode with the CPU control panel.

Used Jas 10.4.7 DVD (and then 10.4.8 update + kernel + a few kexts)

Edit: Oops, didn't see the "2" in core 2 duo.

glad to hear, top contender, HP DV8000T for dekstop replacement,....

core duo or core 2 duo,.... figured I'll point to the current chips,...

but if it runs on core duo,... that's fine, it's only 8% difference,....in some benchmarks,

the DV8000t, has 2 disk bays, good to have a complete seperate disk or windoze or osX

does it work with sleep ?

and do you have 2 processor bars ? which cpu ? T7200 ?

hmm this is from going from 10.4.7 to 10.4.8,....

not from 10.4.5 --> 10.4.8

or 10.4.8 start,....

the other thing is, need gigabit support, and firewire 800,...

the macbook don't have expansions slot,...

another thing,..... no docking station port,...

plug , unplug,... 2-3+ / day ,.... makes 1000+/year

guess, I should contact apple, and design my own macbook from scratch,....

just as in most mil-spec designs,.... at the end,.... it don't meet

price objectives or original design spec,....

as powerfull as a rackmount cray quad blade

as expandable is a gamers box

as sleek as an apple

as functional as an ibm

as affordable as an dell

and no noise

thanks, Robert
