For E5 v3, there's no need for FakeCPUID nor clover patches.

What kind of problem do you have?

E5 v4 needs kernel cpu support patch, nothing else.

Clover built-in or manual? Any issues with aptio?

Clover built-in or manual? Any issues with aptio?

Clover's builtin. I do have aptiofix installed in clover, and it's not the default version that aborts if there isn't big enough continuous mem area for relocation.

After enabling halt to mwait -> cores enter c6 when idle:

Care to share your version? And clover.conf?

Been struggling with this for a while now.

Thanks man.

I'll paste everything here, but what have you been struggling with exactly?

OsxAptioFixDrv-64.efi, which can be downloaded from here:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ojewwdc22yp4zbv/OsxAptioFixDrv-64.efi?dl=0

Kexts loaded by clover:

AppleIntelE1000e.kext

FakeSMC.kext

NullCPUPowerManagement.kext (not needed for E5 v3)

With E5 v4, as there is no cpu pm, core multipliers are not being controlled and are left in whatever state they were set by the BIOS.

I'm using Intel's pcm utils to write 0xff00 (max multi) to msr 0x199 on all cores, but it can easily be done via kext. Also, disabling uncore frequency scaling, helps with performance/io latency (msr 0x620, set the min and max multiplier to same value)!

Thanks man, got progress. From being stuck at the aptiofix screen to kernel panic.

Time to dig deeper.

Have you done any changes to bios settings? Also, try remove the slide=0 bootarg.

Try cpus=1, is that Sierra installer?

Tried multiple bios settings, I think you and I have the same motherboard. CPUs=1 does nothing, will try with slide, found out that the reason clover hangs at the aptio is kernelcpu. When turned on it actually goes to the kernel panic with or without the fakecpuid. Thinking maybe because it's a dual cpu system and somehow clover doesn't detect the second cpu.

Slide=0 is set by default by clover will try to play with the value see if it changes anything.

El cap or Sierra same result.

Maybe if you can find time and kind enough to do couple shoots of the bios setting I can try to zoom into the problem.

Yes, I think we do. Have you tried ElCapitan? I'm not sure Clover's "kernel cpu" patch even works on Sierra...

I'll try Sierra too!

I'll be back in the office in an hour or so and will give it another go with el cap see if it makes any difference.

Thanks man

Sierra works

Try adding the following to clover's config, under SMBIOS. (I also get kernel panic without these...)

Hi.  I came across this thread while researching kernel patching.  How do you discover these hex strings that need to be edited, and how do you know what they should be changed to?  It's amazing.  I tried googling 89d8c1e008b99901 and get no results, so I guess okrasit you are a genius.

By using a disassembler!

Good day everybody...

i have almost forgot about my post... i have been waiting for the WWDC conference results and that they present a new mac pro... since they did not present anything i just thought this build will never work as a hackintosh and installed Win10 on it... also the mentioned hardware did not work out for me since my CPU has been a engineering sample and was not compatible with the gigabyte X99 motherboard i was thinking will work for me.

i ended up with the following configuration now:

Supermicro LGA2011/Intel C612 ATX Server Motherboards X10SRA-F-O

Intel Xeon E5-2698 v4 ES Broadwell-EP CPU 2.0GHz 20-Core 135W

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980Ti 6GB XTREME Gaming Graphic Card GV-N98TXTREME C-6GD

Crucial 32GB Kit (16GBx2) DDR4-2133 MT/s (PC4-2133) CL15 DR x4 ECC RDIMM Server Memory CT2K16G4RFD4213/CT2C16G4RFD4213

EVGA SuperNOVA 850 P2 80+ PLATINUM, 850W ECO Mode Fully Modular NVIDIA SLI and Crossfire Ready 10 Year Warranty Power Supply

further i use a 840Evo 250gb SSD and a single 4tb HDD i had both laying around.... i have installed win 10 and everything runs flawless... in the meantime i bought a HTC Vive and am enjoying VR with the build.... i did many tests for handling my 4K video files and was quite disappointed by the usage of my 20 core 40 thread CPU... a lot of software was only utilizing 8 cores and since my 40 cores are low frequency i have barely seen any profit compared to my 4 core 8 threats CPU i had in my running build....however in some scenarios when the software finally was able to occupy all cores the benefits were quit significant...

Now some month later i look again into the forum here to find out that it seams like people are getting the CPU running with boards running the same chipset than i have ( C612)... even with dual CPUs that are normally even more complicated and troubling

--Since i am totally new to clover and only have build one hack with the toneymac tools i kindly ask you for some assistance for a noob...

can somebody give me a quick to do explanation how i should be able to install OS X 10.11 on a system?

i mean i guess i can follow the guide how to create a Install USB disk with clover and tools available in the forum here, but what aside the standard guide i need to follow to make my hardware work?

i really really would appreciate your help and assistance!

thank you a lot in advance...

...Max

Essentially, make a bootable Clover usb drive. Add IOPCIFamily.kext patch             #1             to Clover. If Clover hangs due to relocation alloc error, download https://www.dropbox.com/s/ojewwdc22yp4zbv/OsxAptioFixDrv-64.efi?dl=0 and add it to Clover's drivers64. Also, enable Clover's "kernel cpu support" patch.

Goes without saying, you'll need FakeSMC.kext and possibly NullCPUPowerManagement.kext & https://www.dropbox.com/s/102fk4i8xv86466/msr199withUncore_max.kext.zip?dl=0.

thank you for your quick answers... i am away from home for the next weeks and will try it out once im back....

What system definitions should i use? Is power management  able to use the full cpu frequency band? is this working automatically or needs extra things done? in my case i have a slightly lower clock speed than the final version... 2.0Ghz base clock instead of 2,2ghz... as its a ES version from eBay...

I'm using macpro6,1 but others work too. The performance is as expected but, with ES there's more than just lower core frequency, the uncore frequency is badly crippled. The CPU handles frequency scaling itself and you'll have great power saving & max performance! :w00t:

Good day everybody...

Im back home and started immediately to install the OS X installation on my Xeon machine as described above... i have done the following:

1. i have created a USB drive following this: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/files/file/572-macos-sierra-hd/

2. i have copied the IOPCIFamily.kext and have added the code to the config.plist directly as described here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/312245-5960x-successfully-installed-under-el-capitan-10113/page-1?do=findComment&comment=2238858

3. i have copied the msr199.kext to the 10.11 folder aswell

4. i have entered my Motherboard BIOS and disabled VT-d

5. i boot from the USB disk and enter clover. i choose boot Mac OS X from Macintosh-HD in Verbose mode.

the moment i hit enter the screen changes black and the PC is rebooting again...

i have seen once or twice the white apple logo on black screen for  a split second but then it disappears again and reboots.

I have tried a lot of different bootlegs found here: http://www.fitzweekly.com/2016/04/hackintosh-boot-flags.htmlbut none of them worked for me...

i also have changed the 980Ti to a GTX770 4gb that works out of the box on my other 4 core hackintosh but clover is having the same results than with the 980Ti

i have made a bunch of screenshots with the options and information i can see in the clover settings, maybe i have a mistake there?

http://www.max.dmpb....eon-Hackintosh/

does anybody can help me out here? maybe i made a general mistake somewhere?

Thank you so much!

i have the feeling that there is maybe some setting problems from the bios or the motherboard?

Anybody any idea, what to look for?

also... is the dance bigger to make it work on 10.10 or 10.12... i actually don't really care witch system will run at the end as long its OS X

Do you have OsxAptioFixDrv installed? Have you enabled Clover's "kernel cpu support" patch?

Don't copy IOPCIFamily.kext anywhere just do the Clover patch.

No need to disable VT-d.
