Well this is tested to work with 10.6.7, ALC889, I don't have Lion.

To update from an existing ##### LegacyHDA + AppleHDA rollback:

 1. Delete LegacyHDA from /Extra/Extenisons
 2. Open #####
 3. Select ALC8xxHDA + AppleHDA Rollback + System Utilities
 4. Reboot

A USB solution is usually the quickest and simplest way to get audio working on your system. Prices range from $5 to $20 shipped depending on which one you choose. These prices are of course the "cheaper" options.

 • 3 weeks later...

I have the EP45-UD3R, not the UD3P, and my motherboard uses the ALC889a. This solution doesn't seem to work for me.

System Report shows audio type of 885 (which is normal for the ALC889a), but when I go to Preferences->Sound, I have no entries available under Outputs.

On my Snow Leopard install it works, so I tried copying various settings from dsdt and my old version of LegacyHDA.kext, but still no luck on sound.

##### crashes the system, and DSDT Editor won't scroll or "find and replace" without crashing, which sends a crash report to Apple every time. I could use a different DSDT editing tool if you know a good one.

Everything else works fine, just no sound. Any ideas on how to resolve this with a next or someone else's dsdt?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Woohoo! Got it, thanks to this post by tmongkol, who has the same motherboard as me:

ALC889A, Gigabyte (Intel), up for ALC889 & ALC892

Look for the part where it says:

For OS X 10.7, also 10.6.8 update or higher

Only ALC885/889a

ALC885_889a_LION.zip ( 15.67K ) Number of downloads: xxx

Download that file and follow the directions in there. Lion will pop up complaints about permissions while you're doing it, just click OK and ignore them. I went ahead and run Disk Utility and did Repair Permissions on my Lion disk before restarting. After restart, finally I got sound! It's a miracle...

I am trying to get sound working on my GA-EP45T-USB3P in Lion and used the method outlined in mulcyber's post to no avail.

Any ideas on how I can get the ALC889 working in Lion?

Thanks in advance.

This is the method i used.

Terminal:

sudo rm -r -v /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext

sudo rm -r -v /System/Library/Extensions/HDAEnabler*kext

sudo rm -r -v /System/Library/Extensions/ALC8xxHDA.kext

run Kext Utillity

reboot

run Kext Utillity

reboot

run Kext Utillity and drop the new AppleHDA.kext into it

reboot

run newst #####

select ALC8xxHDA
