Big Kahuna
Dell is adding 4.1 million batteries to its already existing battery recall. August 15th, an official announcement will be made with CPSC. Almost all D-Series Latitudes, most newer Inspiron, XPS, and Precision Workstations will also be added to the list.. The culprit.. Sony-celled batteries. www.dellbatterprogram.com (the site is already up, but will be updated 8/15 to reflect new information). Cheers.
bofors
Could it because an exploding Dell destroyed a truck?: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2006/08/dell_fire.html
Big Kahuna
The men were trapped in a breezeless canyon for eight hours in 110-degree heat, with few supplies, before the tow truck finally arrived. By that time, Riddle was sick from heat exhaustion, which had set in that morning -- before Forqueran's Dell Inspiron 1300/B130 set his truck ablaze. Yeah, leave a laptop in a vehicle, when it's 110 outside.. what do you expect?

netzen7
Some articles have questioned the sony battery being placed in other vendor products. They even mention Apple. So, do the new Macbooks use the same or similar battery? I know apple went through this issue a few years back, so would be surprised if they are stuck in the situation again, still, curious if anyone knows the details. A Nonny Moose
Apple went through this same situation with the exploding PowerBook 5300. Now it's facing the same situation because they use the same brand of battery that Dell uses.
