Does anybody has an answer for this.

I get sometimes "snow" or "noise" on my Monitor, no kidding!

I don't know how to explain this in English because in Germany we actually call this "snow"

See this Picture than you than know what I mean.

snow01.jpg

This happens sometimes when I start MACOS for about 20 seconds than it disappears . Also when Computer wakes up (sleepeanabler). When I turn off and on the monitor it disappears immediately .

Sometimes Snow just shows up sporadic.

My Hardware has been reconditioned, Monitor died so Dell gave me a new one. I changed the Mainboard. So everything is new also the DVI cable to Monitor. By the Way I had the problem with the "Snow" also with my old hardware configuration.

It happens not when I use 10.5.x.

I use a hidden EFI Partition with DSDT file. Chameleon 2.0 RC3-658. Netkas boot 10.5.

EFI GFX String for Geforce 8800gt, works fine.

Board is GA-EP45-UD3LR.

Monitor Dell 2709w.

It is very nasty. I couldn't find anything in this Forum so I cant figure out why.

Any help or Ideas?

Funny - I see the same thing sometimes when switching back and forth between my PC and Hackintosh using my KVM. I thought it was a problem with the KVM, but I guess not! It goes away after a few seconds. Sorry - I don't have a fix.

I had this problem. Boot into safemode, change the resolution, and reboot. If that doesnt work, try to reboot with the monitor plugged into the other DVI/VGA port.

Thx this is a try worth. I don't have a VGA on my 8800GT but I will try everything else you suggest me. My Resolution is 1920 x1200 to what should I change it?

Because it is the best resolution for this Monitor.

Anyway I will report later If this is aa succes or failure soulotion.

Thank you

I've got the same problem. It appears in 40% of cases when I wakes up my Monitor from sleep.

My temporary solution is to switch the Monitor off and on again.

I had the same problem on my genuine MacBook connected to a 22" HP monitor via a VGA and Mini2VGA adapter cable. This happened mostly when it came out of sleep mode, if I then re-detected displays, it worked fine! I then changed to a Mini2DVI adaptor with cable and since then it has been fine!

There is also a know Issue with cinema displays from Mac, that you can read up on, mine has been good for 4 months now!

Report! It does not work :o

The snow thing ( Bildrauschen) is not the end of the World :D

It is just strange like you pull the cable from your TV.

I's a pain in the ass.

Maybe big brother Apple is watching us :P

R1000.kext seems to be the bigger problem, because I have to unload and than load this kext to get ethernet working after sleepmode. But for this I will search this in awesome forum.

I'm sure this Bildrauschen problem will be dissolved.

I can also report same problem with MBP 13" on Samsung T240 connected over miniDP - DVI interface. However, it happens every now and then after screen was sleeping (computer itself never sleeps). Sometimes the screen comes up completely black, but often I have Snow. Happened with 10.5, and also with 10.6 now.

Interesting is that external display has never worked without this since I got miniDP-DVI interface. Earlier I had problems too but not every time with MacMini on same display.

I'd just love to know if its software or hardware flaw. Can anyone experiencing this problem can test for example windows or linux behavior on same configuration? I don't have anything but Mac OS.

I don't have this snow problem on Ubuntu or Windows XP. On 10.5 I didn't recognize this problem either (I used EFI String).

Maybe it has something to do with the Graphiccard driver?

I use the built-in graphics enabler from Chameleon.

How does this work?

I can also confirm this static/snow on-screen, it happens when screen saver stops and monitor is shutdown, even when the computer still runs (video is off in 3mins and computer in 15mins, no screen saver, just black screen).

Running 10.6.2 (and before it was happening) with a NVidia 9400GT PCIe (via DVi) on a Shuttle XPC SG31G2V2 mobo. Video card is only registered in EFI STRING and working accelerated ok.

The only thing to bring back the desktop is to press on my Samsung T220 monitor the toggle switch for analog/digital input.

Any solution would be greatly appreciated....

I honestly think this might be a thing with only certain monitors. I have dual monitors in my setup, and for some reason one of the monitors will show the "snow" on resume from sleep, but the other comes back fine. Not really sure what causes it. I am at fully 1080 resolution on the "snow" monitor, and the other not quite so high.

So mate, both monitors of yours are the same brand/make/model? But are they both connected via DVi or is one analog and other digital connection (DVi/VGA)?

My "static" (or "snow/noise" if you want) problem appears with the resolution of 1680x1050 on a 22-inch display (via DVi)...

Could it be the driver of 10.6.x that doesn't detect/handle properly the monitor itself?

My "static" or snow problem appears with the resolution of 1920x1200 on a 27-inch display (via DVi)

Geforce 8800gt

I'm wondering that there just a few, which complain about it.

I believe it is the new Driver in SL for Nvidia Grafikcard.

Please everyone who has this static problem please report this here (Grafikcard, Resolution and so on).

So the reason why could be figured out easier.

I have had this same "display snow" problem as long as I've had my hackintosh running (since ~March-April of 2009). I do not think it is related to a new driver in Snow Leopard. I had this problem in all revisions of 10.5. With Snow Leopard, sometimes it will clear up quickly on its own (or with a few keypresses on the keyboard) but other times I need to power cycle the display once or twice. In 10.5 it would sometimes never come out of the "snow" mode unless I rebooted or sometimes I could get it to recover by attaching a different display on the adapter's other display port. In 10.6 it seems to "recover" a more reliably.

I have an nVidia GeForce 9400 GT, 512MB RAM, using an EFI string, 1920x1200, 32-bit resolution via DVI port, Chameleon 2.0 RC4 bootloader, OSX 10.6.2, The card is detected as an OpenCL device, so I'm assuming i'm getting the full acceleration out of it. I have several different displays I've tried - one is a Dell 20", another is a 37" olevia hdtv, and I also have a pair of 24" Acer desktop diplays - I primarily use my computer with one of the 24" Acers but I've seen this problem with both desktop monitor types that I have.

I don´t know if I can help you. I don´t have this problem called "Snow". I´ve tried two cards on my P5Q Deluxe: MSI 9400GT/512 and Palit 9500GT Super 512. They are both working perfectly with the attached driver.

I'd like to report I'm experiencing this problem under a fresh install of Snow Leopard 10.6.4. I'm using a geforce 9800m gs (laptop) on an msi gt627 (MSI-1651). The static seems to resolve itself quickly, although I've only experienced it twice as of yet. The latest instance occurred when resuming the display I have connected through HDMI (an Acer monitor at 1080p, 50hz [pal]). I'm using NVEnabler.

I never had this problem when I was using Leopard (10.5.7). Back then I was using aquamac's 9000 series nvidia drivers and nv2 or whatever it was called.

Hmm I just added a 2nd monitor to my gforce 9800 and turned them both off to clean them.. and the primary is stuck on this static display.....

although thankfully I had a browser on my 2nd display to at least search & post this....

I'll power down both displays and take a look...
