Depends on the bootloader you will be using though. I use GRUB to boot into each one, and it works flawlessly. Install 7 first, then OS X, and finally repair the 7 bootloader. Poco Posted July 17, 2009 Share Posted July 17, 2009 Any system that is able to run Windows and OSX is able to dual boot provided that you have enough diskspace. Since you are using iAtkos it can install on a MBR disk. Unpatched retail disks are unable to (they can run on an MBR disk but not install). If you install Windows 7 first then OSX you simply need to have the OSX partition as active and install a bootloader on it. Poco Posted July 18, 2009 Share Posted July 18, 2009 If you have a bootloader installed on the OSX partition such as Chameleon then mark the OSX partition as active using Disk Management under MyComputer>Manage and reboot. If you did not then boot up into OSX using the distro (if you used one) or the boot132 CD (if you used this) and install one. brendankoch Posted July 21, 2009 Share Posted July 21, 2009 Hey everyone, So I just built a new hackintosh today and I am trying to dual boot Leopard and Windows 7 on separate partitions on 1 hard drive. I have installed both OSes but now I can only boot into Leopard and not Windows 7. Heres what I have done so far: 1st: I installed windows 7 build 7600 on my hard drive making one partition for windows and one for mac. The installer makes one 200MB partition reserved for the system and I formatted a 400GB partition for the OS. (So there are 2 partitions for windows 7 by default) 2nd: I installed iatkos v7 Leopard with chamelon v.2 on what is now the 3rd partition. 3rd: I rebooted and since the os x partition is active it boots into the chameleon bootloader and I have the option to boot either Mac OS X, the Windows 7 "System Reserved" Partition, or the Windows 7 "Windows NTFS" OS Partition. I can boot into Leopard just fine but I can't boot into windows 7. It says "BOOTMGR is missing Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart" when I try to boot it from chameleon. I tried booting up the Windows 7 install DVD to repair the windows installation but it doesn't even recognize the windows installation now. I now have a perfect Leopard & Windows 7 dual boot system using chameleon 2.0 and it works exactly like my brothers macbook pro! In regards to your question, Chameleon should be just fine for two separate hard drives. I don't know how to configure it but you should be able to find lots of information about it on google. Now just need to figure out how to change the default drive to boot, hide the NTFS drive from chameleon and hide the system reserved drive from the osx desktop. I have windows 7 on a partition and I create another partition for the mac(Using Gparted with htfs+ format)... Then I tried to install the OSX86 on that partition and everything goes smoothly and I finished from the installation and the Mac started up fine. when I restart it and I tried to boot windows 7(using chameleon bootloader) it gave me error "bootmgr is missing"... After along searching over the internet I know that i need to fix windows 7 loader, but I need first to set it as active... The problem is how to set it as active using the Gparted ?? Is it only to put the flag to "boot" beside the system reserved partition(100 Mb ) ?? If it is, I did it and when I run the windows7 dvd it didn't recognize the hard drive of the windows 7, althought it's already installed and the problem only from the boot loader... And, now I can't even start the Mac. It seems also the mac bootloader is broken now... How to fix that ??? Note: By the way, I got that problem before and i couldn't see the windows7 hardrive(not recognized in the dvd), and I fixed it by formating the mac on that reside on the partition(Only have one boot, But I need dual boot(win7 & mac). So, it seems that the windows see that there is a unfamiliar os on the HD and won't boot now... How to fix it ?? I need ur helps Guys... teshxx Posted August 21, 2009 Share Posted August 21, 2009 i am having the same problem...i have Windows 7 rtm installed on one hd and iatkos 7 on second hd...installed iatkos with chamelon bootloader (the one that is included in the dvd)...i can boot into osx, but not windows 7...i tried Gparted and the system reserve partition is boot...and it still wont boot win7...i tried runnin repair a million times and yet the same result...osx boots fine but no win7...any ideas how to dual boot win7 and osx successfully...and which bootloader to use??? My pc is running windows 7, and I installed this OSX86 Version from pirate bay. The dualboot works fine, "little drop down menu choices..." but as soon as the apple logo appears to do it's initial boot my pc restarts. Any easy fixes? Now i want to install mac osX iAKTOS v7 (Triple boot). Can you refer me to good guide that uses GRUB so that i may not mess up with all this stuff? Slip Posted August 31, 2009 Share Posted August 31, 2009 Using earlier Chameleon works better for me. Sounds like R2 works for some. Had to go through all this with the Win 7 bootloader. If partition was made active win 7 boot from DVD repair mode could attempt to fix it but still wouldn't boot. Had to go through this manually , its all Vista related. Start here after boot from DVD repair with terminal : bcdedit /export c:\BCD_backup c: cd boot attrib bcd -s -h -r ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old bootrec /Rebuildbcd I believe that enables only win 7 too boot again. I've got grub booting all from a AVlinux install. The AVlinux distro has a remaster-sys re-install grub from the liveCD. It needs to find a linux install on your drive to add to the Grub menu though. So once Windows boots again then re-install Grub that windows wiped out, and add OSX to the menu.1st file. other bootrec.exe commands. below Google it.
