Isaac.S
I just got my macbook pro from work. I am going to put xp on it as I need visual studio tools etc, but I would like to get to know osx better too. I have some what seem like basic questions though that I can't figure out. How do I minimize something without having to go all the way to the top of the window? I can "restore" it by clicking on the program icon or by clicking in the area that the minimized windows go to, but then how do I make them go back without having to mouse a long ways? Similar to above but if I have lots of windows open, how do I navigate to the one that I want without minimizing a bunch of junk. I can option-tab, but like firefox has multiple windows open so it only goes to the one I last used. It is like I have to search for what I want by minimizing or moving the other windows. How do I make a window maximize or fill the whole screen? I can hit the plus and that works in some programs but it doesn't work with safari or with firefox. Is there like a show desktop function that minimizes everything? I guess that is all for now :S Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, I am hoping I can learn to like this OS. If windows would take a few hints on smoothness they would be a lot further along. The Mac experience is real, but I am annoyed that I cant find out how to do what I want. A Nonny Moose
Minimize via the keyboard with command (apple)-M. Navigate to an open Window. Do a search on VersionTracker for a preference pane called Witch. You can then do exactly what you need via option-tab. You can switch between applications with command-tab. Maximize a window--The plus button is a "smart resize" button that isn't always smart. It tries to fit the window to the contents. You'll see a pulll tab at the bottom right of every wndow that you can use to stretch to fill the screen, though, so that is the best option. Show desktop--F11. F9 will also show you every open not-minimized window. F10 will show you every window in your current application.
Swad
Hey Issac. I'll move this thread to the Mac Forum since it's a little more apt for that area. non sequitur
if you want to switch between open windows in an application, hit command+tilde instead of command+tab.
