Dual booting Windows 7 RC1 and Mac OSX 10.5.7.
Get iATKOS 5i 10.5.5 for Intel (it's somewhere around there, look for it)
Use magic gparted for resizing your Windows install.
Create a primary partition as HFS+, keep as MBR.
Boot from iATKOS ISO
use Disk Utility to reformat as HFS+ (I choose to not use journaling to save on performance, but it's up to you.). KEEP PARTITIONS AS MBR!!! (default)
Before the install, the most important part, the CUSTOMIZE:
-PC_EFI_V9
-Intel SATA (no AHCI)
-Voodoo Kernel
-X86 ACPI (includes PS2 drivers for keyboard/touchpad)
-SMBIOS: Choose MacBook Air's.
-NTFS_3G if you choose to write to your /dev/sda1, where Windows should be.
-remove thermal kexts
-Broadcom 440 NIC, so you can hook up to the internet through ethernet, like the 1990's. :)
-DO NOT INSTALL ANY NVIDIA DRIVERS
For wifi:
-download and install iwidarwin from http://code.google.com/p/iwidarwin/ . it will install a GUI so you can select networks, since apple's framework is closed source and poorly documented, therefore it's not detected as an airport card. LIMITATIONS: will only connect to open networks. :(
after the install goes through, boot with the -x flag. the video card will not initialize since we didn't install nvinject.
Now to 10.5.6!! To get to 10.5.6, all you have to do is: (I put these steps down because I don't know if you have to go through .6 to get to .7. I've had to do incremental updates since I always do them when the new build comes out, but for someone starting from scratch I have little advice, yet.)
- install iATKOS 5i (10.5.5) as shown in this guide (skip down a few lines to where it says original post) and skip the nVidia fix.
- update to 10.5.6 using software update
- overwrite the new system.kext (found in /System/Library/Extensions/) with the custom kernel system.kext (found in /Library/Temp) with this command:
sudo mv /System/Library/Extensions/System.kext /System/Library/Extensions/System.kext.old; cp -r /Library/Temp/System9.5.0.kext /System/Library/Extensions/System.kext
- now open osx86tools and fix permissions/delete caches. I'm not sure how much this is necessary, but do it anyway. It worked for me.
- reboot. not sure if this is necessary, but again, this is how I got it working, so do it for good measure.
- if you have problems with the 10.5.6 software update, please see post #42
To get to 10.5.7, all you have to do is:
- Prep for upgrade by going to Software Update and commencing the download of .7
- Reboot. The first reboot did something strange, the computer rebooted on its own, but the second time it came up perfectly.
- replace the new system.kext with the custom kernel system.kext to avoid USB mounting problems:
sudo mv /System/Library/Extensions/System.kext /System/Library/Extensions/System.kext.old2; cp -r /Library/Temp/System9.5.0.kext /System/Library/Extensions/System.kext- install the following kext with osx86tools if you have a kernel panic when mounting .dmg files. http://dl.getdropbox...10.5.5.kext.zip. The parent link where I got that from (http://forum.insanel...howtopic=141415 has an alternate solution in case the dmg's keep crashing your box.
- following is the steps to get QE/CI working.
NVIDIA FIX
-download the nvidia 10.5.2 kexts from http://www.apple.com...csupdate10.html
-download pacifist at http://www.charlessoft.com/
-open leopard graphics update package with pacifist, right click on package and choose 'install to default location', and overwrite everything it asks
-with osx86tools http://######.com/osx86tools/, reset caches and fix permissions. I always pick the "Repair Permissions" "Set Extensions Permissions" "Clear Extensions Cache" "Clear User Application Cache" and "Clear System Application Cache" for completeness.
-download nvinstaller v.41 from http://scottdangel.c...log/?page_id=20
-when running nvinstaller v.41, choose "latest kexts and framework" and "laptops (Go or M) GPU" options. you will have to expand the greyed out item to see the latter. Uncheck the vanilla option.
reboot and voi-effing-la!
let me know if there's any questions at jilipoya ( at ) hot mail ( d o t ) com
