pkshdk Posted October 14, 2008 Share Posted October 14, 2008 I'm currently building a new computer, which I'm gonna built into a Mac Pro enclosure, but I'm going for the HD 4870 1GB, and that card isn't supported yet. So could I buy a used 8800 GT/GTS and use that when I'm in Mac OSX, and use the other card for when I'm in Windows? Would that work? Thats all very well, macgirl... but that doesn't really answer my questions, does it? Try anwering my question instead of being condasending... Those stickies regards two Nvidia cards and two cards that are completely the same. I want to use two totally different cards - and one that isn't supported by Mac OSX at all. And also want to know if there is any clever solution to switch between the two cards, without having to change the monitor cable everytime you want to boot up in one of the systems. It was a thread with TWO Nvidia cards AND a thread with two cards that were completely the same. I haven't seen anything about two TOTALLY different cards - as for cards Mac OSX doesn't even support yet, that's what I want to know...! Can I do that - it's a simple question. Emtpyskull understands the question. I don't want to run both cards in Mac OSX, because as I've stated many times I want to use a 4870 which isn't supported yet. macgirl Posted October 16, 2008 Share Posted October 16, 2008 If it a consolation to you, I use two different Wireless Cards on my laptop, one that it does not recongized by Mac OS an the other does. pino72 Posted October 24, 2008 Share Posted October 24, 2008 Hmmm....I am in the same situation, I have a x1900gt running perfectly on my p35 board, and will get my 4870 back (died) soon...so i will try to put the 4870 in the x16 pcie slot and the x1900gt in the slower 4x slot.....and then we will see what happens in vista and in osx 10.5.5....I too want the 4870 in vista and the x1900gt in osx! Viktor Jaughn Posted October 24, 2008 Share Posted October 24, 2008 I tried placing my GeForce 7800 GT in PCIe slot one, and my Radeon HD 4870 in slot two, but I don't see the option to switch between adapters in Vista, which I didn't expect. Am I doing something wrong here? By the way, I'm trying to have this operate on a single-monitor setup; my monitor has both DVI and VGA inputs, so I can easily switch sources, but first I need Vista to use the 4870, and OSx86 to use the 7800 (which currently it does by default). Can something like this be configured in the BIOS? If we can solve this I'm sure we'll be helping out a lot of community/potential community members, as already evident in this thread.
