NYC Coyote Posted June 2, 2008 Share Posted June 2, 2008 I currently am running Leopard 10.5.3 on my Dell E1505/6400. I would love for this to show up correctly on the network as a Macbook Pro. But it shows up as a Mac Pro. I know this information is kept in the AppleSMBios. Could I just replace the file with one from an actual Mac? Use vanilla? Or will that just screw up the machine? It is modified using the source code provided by mac.nub so all credit goes to him (thank you!!). I've included the hacked AppleACPIPlatform.kext that I use on my system as I found with the default 10.5.3 appleacpiplatform the model customization was not successful. Also I believe you have to use the vanilla kernel as some hacked kernels hardcode model info. InferiorYeast Posted June 3, 2008 Share Posted June 3, 2008 make sure you are using pc-efi (you should be) and the vanilla kernel (you may or may not be) and you should be good to go. If you aren't using the vanilla kernel the only ill effect might be that the model identifier doesn't change. Bus speed is based on a calculation and should show up correctly on most but not all cpus.
