NYC Coyote
I currently am running Leopard 10.5.3 on my Dell E1505/6400. I would love for this to show up correctly on the network as a Macbook Pro. But it shows up as a Mac Pro. I know this information is kept in the AppleSMBios. Could I just replace the file with one from an actual Mac? Use vanilla? Or will that just screw up the machine? Whalid
You can customize the identifiers. Check mac.nub site and look for smbios http://my.macdotnub.info/ cheers Whalid PS: No, you cannot use vanilla applesmbios.
NYC Coyote
I just looked it up and all I found was a modified bios file. And I showed the contents of the package and looked at the plist. No clue about how to modify this and I can not find any instructions
InferiorYeast
Here is the modified AppleSMBIOS.kext I use on my hack to show as a macbook pro. It is modified using the source code provided by mac.nub so all credit goes to him (thank you!!). I've included the hacked AppleACPIPlatform.kext that I use on my system as I found with the default 10.5.3 appleacpiplatform the model customization was not successful. Also I believe you have to use the vanilla kernel as some hacked kernels hardcode model info. Make sure you are using pc-efi as well http://rapidshare.com/files/119687704/smbios.zip.html
NYC Coyote
Thanks!!! So if I use this....but keep the rest of my system unmodified (I'm using Kalyway 10.5.3) I should be ok?
InferiorYeast
make sure you are using pc-efi (you should be) and the vanilla kernel (you may or may not be) and you should be good to go. If you aren't using the vanilla kernel the only ill effect might be that the model identifier doesn't change.
NYC Coyote
Thanks Those two kext files worked perfectly Now I show up like a MacBook Pro If these aren't vanilla files, is there anything that may or not get screwed up in the future?
iSkylla
Just a note, you can use a vanilla SMBIOS but you need an enabler and the Identifier is now reported by the kernel, not the SMBIOS.
InferiorYeast
just make sure you always restore applesmbios and appleacpiplatform after any updates that replace them. @iSkylla - what's the enabler you need to use vanilla applesmbios?
SuperNet33
I am looking for a GOOD SMbios that says MacPro .. Can someone Send me a link to a good one.

SuperNet33
Thanks, i will try it in a bit!Model Name: Mac Pro Model Identifier: MacPro3,1 Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed:2.13 GHz Number Of Processors: 1 Total Number Of Cores: 2 L2 Cache: 4 MB Memory: 4 GB Bus Speed: 67 MHz Boot ROM Version: MP31.006C.B05 Serial Number: CK018WMFK9B My Bus speed only shows 67 Mhz, that's wrong It should be Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
InferiorYeast
macprosmbiosbusfixed.zip let me know if that fixes it. my computer is weird so i had the calculation wrong.
SuperNet33
Thanks, i will try it a little later... So if I ever get a new CPU , will this one still work?
InferiorYeast
The only things hardcoded are model identifier, memory info (set at 800mhz regardless of actual memory), boot rom version, and serial number. Bus speed is based on a calculation and should show up correctly on most but not all cpus. So it should be fine with a new cpu

I have tried that. But for some reason none of the pro Apps works with the vanilla AppleSmbios. Do you manage to make them run? cheers Whalid

pet1
This has my 10.5.3 install working perfectly. Sleep, restart, shutdown. Shows up as mac pro. I'm using 10.5.3 kernel, with original applesmbios. Also using applesmbiosEFI.kext which just came out here last night and works great. Also using the powermanagementdiasble.kext And, using the 10.5.3 appleacpiplatform.kext with replaced appleacpiplatform binary from this page http://leopard.ihack-case.dk/index.php/Reboot Also using chameleon which I like better than pc_efi. quinielascom
For 10.5.3 use this AppleACPIPlatform.kext: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...st&id=29112 then go to: http://my.macdotnub.info/content/view/22/26/ and download the AppleSMBIOS.kext of your preference. In my Laptop now show MacBook2,1 in System Profiler and Geekbench of course. Try and post yours results.
