qmckemie
do you think microsoft will continue developing VPC and with intel processors shouldn't it run windows really good?
sbeehre
I think they will and it will probably be easier for them to develop because they can basically get rid of the CPU emulation part.
Daxziz
Personally I believe that WINE will become much more polulair now. There's no reason to emulate anything at all when we can just interpret the calls like possible on Linux x86. No Windows stuff and great speeds -Daxziz
mandude
Has anyone heard (or remember for that matter) of Red Box (by NeXT originally)? I bet thats what Apple has up their sleeves for Leopard. A dated link about Red Box:: http://www.lowendmac.com/musings/boxes.shtml
Daxziz
Yeah I remember. It probably never left the drawing board if you ask me. I've been around much of the NeXT / Rhapsody world and Red Box has never been more than a few words on a page. I really think Apple should offer something for WINE and get'em to support OS X more. Anyway.. I believe that WINE will be "Red Box" so to say -Daxziz

A Nonny Moose
MS will most likely continue Virtual PC and it will remain the 800 pound gorilla of Windows emulators. As for speed, because there is an emulation layer involved, there will be a performance hit. Plus, there likely won't be native support for graphics cards also, which means another hit. dkelley
this is why I'm currently using Q (qemu for osx) to run windows 98 without cpu emulation on my imac core duo. it's excellent, free (although I donated to show support) and is pretty much the same thing as virtual pc (without a couple of features like drag and drop). down the road virtual pc will be good software for intel macs, but it'll always be behind Q which works TODAY. Pu7o
Q doesn't run without CPU emulation yet.
chiefsalami
??? Sure it does. The latest (unstable) build you can get today runs x86 OS's on the Intel Mac just fine (without emulation).

Nope its still emulating an x86 processor. The kext qemu accelerator module hasn't been ported yet.
