does anyone know how to get the Leopard disk to even boot off of a P5K?

i have 4 hdds and 2 of them are in raid0 so i am forced to used RAID for my sata mode in the BIOS. but im pretty srue that RAID mode included AHCI.

 

when i try to boot off the disk a few min into booting the disk it says:

Waiting on <dict ID="0"><key>IOProviderClass</key><string ID="1">IOResources</string><key>IOResourceMatch</key><string ID="2">boot-uuid-media</string></dict>

 

so i'm not too sure what to do here. tiger works perfectly..

i'm actually usingLeopard 9A559 on my P5K + core2Quad q6600 computer... :(

 

 

on the two red sata port i have my two 320 Go sata drives...

on the Jmicron Pata port i have my dvdr 112 d (pioneer)

both ports are on AHCI (ich9 on bios 0406 and jmicron ahci too...)

 

i have installed jas 10.4.8, and update with my Leopard patched dvd (last brazilian patch 31/10/2007...)

 

applied the post-patch and all is ok !!! :D :D :D

 

if you need some drivers (like alc883 and others, tell me.)

 

network don't work...put an realtek 8139 pci card and it's ok.

 

i'm using GeForce 7600 pro with natit included with brasilian patch.

i finally got it working. i had to boot with "-legacy". no clue why i have to.. im using the TOH disk and it works perfectly besides that. my lan works automatically.

 

i also have a Q6600. which P5K version do you have? and can you get 5.1 audio? i have 2.1 working right now..

i also have my 8800GTS working.

mine is only P5K too

 

first step, goto bios (must be 0406...otherwise downgrade) and look for ahci compliance on sata and ahci on jmicron.

 

connect sata hd on first red port, sata dvd on the other red port, and Pata drive on pata connector (red)

 

for audio, use those kexts... and remove appleHDAaudio.kext

there is a command shell inside to repair (really !!!, not like disk util...) permission.

HI,

 

Could you run an xbench test on your machine and report back your results?

I have the same configuration and I feel that the HD speed is not ok.

Hi, I have the same motherboard, but the kext for audio don't working for me...

 

I've try to remove the AppleHDAaudio.kext, but i haven't this kext, and the audio won't work!

 

Please anybody have any idea???

 

PS: i have other problem with this motherboard, if i start Leopard without the -x option I've this kernel panic:

 

"Unable to find driver for this platform: ACPI" (without quotes)

I've read a lot of information, but still no have solution...

Don't remove anything. Install AZALIA_1988b. If you installed Kaly, it might not have installed it properly (if you checked it). Just open the Kaly disc, navigate to this azalia thing and reinstall. Reboot and done.

 

Only thing I can say to -x is, don't start with -x :)

 

I have P5K, but so far it's been a real {censored}. Since Asus decided to drop AHCI support on this mobo. Apparently there are two versions of this mobo - one that supports AHCI and one that does not. If you have the "old" one, you might be able to revert back to one of the old BIOSes, 405 or 406 - they support AHCI. Otherwise you are completely out of luck.

 

IDE mode seemed stable at first, but occasionally I am getting kernel panics (for example when I burn discs). Plus the fact that you can't run 4GB with IDE makes it even worse.

 

Onboard LAN does not work, I use cheap Realtek NIC.

 

Either way, vanilla P5K is a pretty {censored} board for Leopard, that's all I can say after almost 2 months. Some of the P5K ICH9R based boards are not bad, but not this ICH9 P5K vanilla {censored}. For this reason I ordered Gigabyte DS3R a couple of days ago. I just wish I got it in the first place.

I have the P5K too (...just P5K) and I've successfully installed Leopard on it, including update to 10.5.2 and graphic update. Works like a charm.

 

Haven't checked the sound, but I guess your last post there fix that (if it isn't working).

 

My only problem is LAN, the onboard doesn't work. Hopefully a new pci-card will do the thing for me.

 

But it's stable and all, boots way faster than XP!

 

Now, I want to know if there's a solution to dual boot XP and Leopard. They're on different SATA-HDs...

If they are on different HD's just press F5 or F8 (i never remember) during POST sequence to select your boot drive, and boot from it. This is probably the simplest solution.

 

As for P5K stability.. well it's a {censored} board as I said. I am getting occasional GSODs when HDD I/O load is high. I think it's related to the fact that this board can only run in IDE mode. I went for about 2 weeks without problems, but this thing hit. It really depends on what you do; I've never had a single GSOD while say playing WoW, but I get GSODs sometimes when I burn DVDs.

 

Another problem with this board is that some of my USB devices are not detected when the system comes back from sleep; I have to re-plugin them.

Getting shutdown / reboot can be tricky too - you have to play with BIOS settings.

 

All in all, I wouldn't recommend this board for Leo, but If you have it.. well, you don't have much choice like me.

Caused by IDE Mode - try AHCI Mode

I think it's related to the fact that this board can only run in IDE mode.

Right and wrong - AHCI is possible with P5K 406 Bios or a new P5KR Bios (use at your own risk)

Never seen and heard of two different (plain) P5K Versions. Every (plain) P5K can be flashed with the older 406 Bios. Since i wanted support for newer CPUs AND AHCI i flashed the P5KR Bios :thumbsup_anim:

All in all, I wouldn't recommend this board for Leo, but If you have it.. well, you don't have much choice like me.

I wouldn't recommend it too for a new buy, but it IS very stable (running 10.5.2)

For a new buy i would recommend something with P35/ICH9R and more options per default in Bios (like ACHI/Wake on USB Mouse/Shutdown after 4 sec. .... and so on). Perhaps the DFI Lanparty (P35)??

Hello all,

 

I'm new to the community but recently got 10.5.4 working on my p5k deluxe. Here's my hardware:

 

Asus P5K deluxe with wifi motherboard

2 x 2GB Corsair Dominator2 DDR Ram

EVGA 8800 GTS Pci-e 640 MB overclocked Video card

2 x Seagate Barracuda 120 GB HDD

2 x Western Digital 150 GB Raptor HDD

2 x Western Digital 250 GB Raptor HDD

Happauge PVR-250 Capture Capture CArd

Soundblaster Audigy 2 5.1 Sound Card

NEC DVDRW - IDE

Pioneer DVDRW -IDE

 

Seagates 120 GB drives are on Sata ports 1 and 2 configured as a RAID 1 array running XPSP2

WD 150 GB drives are on Sata ports 3 and 4 - no raid

WD 250 GB drives are on Sata ports 5 and 6- RAID 0 array

 

Installed XP first and got everything running in the windows world - note Sata config in bios set to RAID so it would see the raid signatures on the Seagate and WD drives

 

Now the interesting part....

 

Tried to install Kalyway 10.5.1 with the NEC and Pioneer opticals - upon boot neither would not read the dvd and the installer hung with the plist error due to the jmicron controller. The fixes for this appear to be varied, for me using an external USB dvd drive was the trick. It took me a few installs to figure it out, but with 10.5.1 custom install, I installed the audio driver and the realtek wifi drivers, both work ok. I installed it on one of the 150 GB Raptors. The install recognized the video card but did not see it as an nvidia card. only saw 32 mb of ram and resolution was fixed at 1024 x 768. Edited boot.ini and put the Chain0 file at the root of the windows array so it would prompt for dual boot.

 

Read up on various ways to upgrade to 10.5.2 - 10.5.4. The only one that worked for me was installing Kalyway 10.5.3, at which point my onboard NICs and firewire detected, downloaded the nvinstaller.pkg which got the video card fully functional, and then was able to run Apple software update from within 10.5.3 to get to 10.5.4.

 

NOTE

 

After applying Kalyway 10.5.3 Leopard would NOT boot. spinning circle of death and various switches that display the boot process all stopped at waiting for root device. After researching this, the fix for me is to set the Sata bios config to IDE, which then boots Leopard no problem. The catch, for me is that to get back to Windows I have to flip the Sata bios config back to RAID so it boots windows properly.
