MacUser2525
looking for pci-E sata cards that work with 64bit. just got a sil3124 4 port pci-e card , ony works in 32bit ---> boot arch=x86_32 in 64bit not recognized !!! considering highpoint rocketraid 2300 series , but can't find any info ! other ideas, is there a way to load 32bit drivers in 64bit ? best candidate: - pci-express - pci 2.0 - sata 2 - ports 4 - 8 internal also looking for 2 port esata I have a SeriTek 2SE2-E e-SATA that works in 64bit never had two ports in use at the same time but I don't see why it would not work with both. For the internal a Highpoint 620A only the two ports but I believe I seen a four port card with the same chipset when I was buying it is the newer 6GB/s SATA interface as well no driver need for this one, the other the driver is a download from the manufacturers website. Edit: In case you are thinking of it the 6GB/s SATA internal is not bootable under OSX at least its the only system I have used it with so can't say about any others. Zulu.Walker
You can use your Silicon Image 3124 (SiI/SIL3124) with 10.6.4 in 64-bit mode. CalDigit makes a 3124 PCIe card that had its drivers updated (since January/late last year actually) for 64-bit operation. http://www.caldigit.com/Support/CalDigit_FASTA4_2.1.0u.zip Haven't tested for stability - still in 32-bit mode for some peripheral drivers I use for work. But I'm pretty sure it'll be enough for those who need it. EDIT: Here's another driver for a similar 3124-based card, this time from Sonnet Tech. http://www.sonnettech.com/support/download...atapro_v224.dmg I don't know if this works since it seems as if Sonnet might have changed a few things (device ID) and if this is any similar to its other drivers, will have an installer that looks for those IDs. Maybe someone good can hack it? It's more recent and probably more stable. also looking for 2 port esata You can try any brand of controller that has a Silicon Image 3132 chipset, as long as it adheres to the reference design. Most of the 2-port cards for OS X are based on the 3132, and have relatively good driver support for 32- and 64-bit operation. Another alternative is a JMicron-based card - but be warned that earlier drivers had data corruption issues, but I'm pretty confident that that has mostly been fixed by now. Commonly available controllers have the JMB36x chipset, and retail cards for Macs have been seen with this chipset series. The trick is to look for a well-supported card under Mac OS X that is based on a reference design - a Windows-only card based on the same design (and cheaper) will almost be 100% compatible with the Mac card's drivers. But since there are only a handful of cards supported under Mac OS X that are based off reference designs, the cards/chipsets (3124/3132/JMB36x) I mention here are basically it. Of course there are other options like Highpoint and Seritek - just be prepared to pay more than normal. PS. I use a 3124 and 3132 card, so this is all firsthand experience. Also keep in mind that be it a PCI/PCI-X/PCIe card, the drivers work similarly. rschultz101
first thanks, the caldigit driver worked, arch=x86_64 , looks like a generic silicon image driver. curently have SYBA SY-PEX40008 PCI Express SATA II Controller --- problem with that, too long on my ga-p45-ud3l,... only fits in one slot, since I have a dual slot fanless gt240,.... can't even put a second card it !?! argh so now looking for a slight shorter sil3124 / 4 port sil card pci-e and a sil3132 2 external pci-e would like to get some highpoint rocketraid cards, but did not get a reply from them, 2 requests,.... they state, 64bit is via EFI , so I don't know how this is going to work with chameleon ,.... and some of their cards are x4 pci-e, even x8, and I don't have a slot on my mobo. ideal, be a pci-e 2.0 x4 lane 4-8 port card, for an ssd raid, and 12TB . but need to evaluate, next step, since the drives add noise, so maybe external,... maybe NAS, aka freenas,.... maybe osx server,... but gigE is bottleneck. other thoughts,.... with sata cards, the drives show up external, and can be unmounted. found a real nice tool MountnuM , makes it a breeze, very nice. http://www.klieme.com/MountnuoM.html notes: got freenas 0.72 in vmware fusion running,.... testing. does have some priliminary ZFS support. opensolaris has ZFS,.... but a whole server OS,... it's a bit much next: - ssd for boot OS, and user home - 2TB drives notes: have a softraid 0, where I put VM images for faster boot,... once you do raid, you have option to do bigger than 4k blocks, search/wish for a format tool, where I can pick the block size !? other thoughts: new Imac 27" is nice,... but no expansion,... need external storage (working on it) or new project,.... to get a 8-core amd , > upgrade to bulldozer 12-core, and run everything in VM? but the server mobo's don't OC ,... Gringo Vermelho
they state, 64bit is via EFI , so I don't know how this is going to work with chameleon I think they mean that a MacPro with 64-bit EFI firmware is required for 64-bit funcionality. If I'm right, they're saying that because (at least) one of the older Intel MacPros have 32-bit EFI even though the CPU is EM64T capable. This is a non-issue on a PC running OS X, where you can use both 32-bit and 64-bit drivers as you please, as long as the hardware is capable and you're using the right model identifier in your smbios.plist. But if the card itself has an EFI ROM (like Mac video cards) then I don't know what will happen if you use it on a Hackintosh.
