Umm...it does support more than 3gb of RAM. So when you go to the "About this Mac", it doesn't say '4GB 667 MHZ RAM' ? Nevermind that the 667 is wrong...but if you have 4 1gb sticks, they should all show up. Do they show up in Windows (assuming it's x64 windows) or Ubuntu?

This might be a result your BIOS settings, depending on your motherboard.

I had the same problem with my Asus P5B Deluxe mobo.

There is a BIOS setting for my P5B called 'Memory Mapping', which, when enabled, allows the system to recognize > 3GB of RAM without affecting performance.

In my case, enabling this setting enabled 4GB of RAM to be detected by the BIOS and then be properly recognized by OS X after boot.

I think many of the Asus P5 models have this feature.

I'm having problems with this issue also.... I have to disable memory remapping in the bios otherwise system crashes. I have 4gb installed but only 3gb is actively used by os x (and consequently my 64bit vista as well. like it says above 'if the mobo can't see it then neither can the os!).

Any advice on correct mobo settings guys? I have a Asus P5K

If you by "before the white apple screen" mean the Darwin bootloader, then it's normal that it can't display 8GB. It's a 32-bit loader and can only use 3GB of the RAM. Leopard, however, is 64-bit and can address the full 8GB. Nothing to worry about.
