Hi,

you can post your hardware/tips used with a sucessfull kalyway 10.5.2 installation, here I go :

ACER Aspire 5920g laptop :

-CPU : Intel core2duo T7300 (working, no cpus=1 flag needed)

-RAM : 4Go Corsair DDR2 667MHz (working, no "more than 2Go" bug)

-Optical Drive : Combo DVD-ROM Sata 2 (working)

-HDD : Hitachi 250Go Sata 2 (Working)

-Motherboard Chipset : Intel ICH8/82801 (working)

-VGA : GeForce 8600M GS (working with an external NVinject driver, kernel panic if using driver on DVD)

-IEEE1384 : Ricoh OHCI (working)

-Lan : Broadcom Netlink Gigabit (not working)

-Wlan : Intel pro/Wireless 3945ABG (not working, a WIP driver exist)

-RICOH Integrated SD card Reader (not working)

-USB 2.0 (working using USBPCGen driver)

-Vanilla Kernel 9.2.2 (Working)

-Dual boot Ubuntu 8.04/Leopard (working with pc_efi 8.0)

Tips :

-You can find the a working VGA driver for this laptop HERE

-The beta wifi driver install fine but the network manager provided with it (power on/off device, select modes, ect...) hang so it's impossible to use the device, Airport see no wifi.

-If you have boot freeze after installing driver/update that need a reboot, boot in single mode (-s) and use the fsck -fy command to fix the problem.

-If you have no keyboard after installing driver/update that need a reboot, connect an USB keyboard and boot OSX, this will force AppleACPIPlatform.kext to be fully reloaded and will fix the problem.

-If you have no keyboard after a normal boot (nothing installed/modified before) just reboot and it wil be fixed (rare bug)

That's all for me :P

Hi there, it's great that you were able to get a working copy of Kalyway 10.5.2 on Acer Aspire 5920G.

It would be super if you could specify exactly what options you used in the "Customize" option selector in the installation menu of Kalyway's DVD.

Also, could you specify what option you selected for the soundcard?

Txs for your help

Main components:

Motherboard: Asus P5B-E Plus (BIOS 0627)

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 6MB L2 Cache 3.0GHz

RAM: 4GB Corsair DDR2-800 5-5-5-15 (at 833Mhz)

Graphics: Leadtek Winfast PX9800GTX 512MB

Optical: ICH8R-SATA-6 Samsung

HDD1: ICH8R-SATA-1 Seagate 160GB (Windows XP Pro SP2)

HDD2: ICH8R-SATA-5 Western Digital Raptor 75GB (OSX86 Kalyway 10.5.2)

HDD3: ICH8R-SATA-3 Seagate 500GB (incl. 100GB HFS+ partition for Timemachine)

HDD4: ICH8R-SATA-4 Seagate 500GB

PSU: FSP Epsilon 600W

Case: Antec P182

Display: Samsung SyncMaster 226BW

Bios adjustments:

Main>IDE Configuration>Configure SATA as RAID (AHCI should be fine as well)

Advanced>USB Configuration>BIOS EHCI Hands-off>Disabled

Advanced>Onboard Devices Configuration>Front Panel Support Type>AC97

Advanced>Onboard Devices Configuration>JMicron Controller Mode>IDE (not showing; AHCI/RAID should work)

Advanced>Onboard Devices Configuration>Front Panel Support Type>AC97

Advanced>PCIPnP>Plug and Play OS>Yes

Installation Process:

1. Boot off Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD

2. Use included Disk Utility to partition the Raptor as GUID [EDIT: as MBR if you want to use the chain0 method for dual booting]

3. Custom Installation (only Vanilla Kernel selected; wifi drivers unchecked; time machine patch; the rest pretty much according to defaults)

4. Reboot into OSX, setup account, etc.

5. Install the 9800GTX using aqua-mac's GFX strings method

6. Main installation done!

Additional Customizations:

- Modified "About this Mac" and System Profiler information (especially so that it doesn't show the computer's name as "System Product Name")

- Set OSX to keep the BIOS time as local time (to keep peace with Windows XP)

- Installed MacFuse and NTFS-3G so as to be able to write to NTFS disks

Notes:

- Onboard LAN works

- Onboard 5.1 sound only in stereo

- 10 x USB ports, working (as far as I can tell)

- Firewire port detected but not tested

- Time Machine works (appears to anyway) [EDIT: Confirmed]

- Sleep does not work

- Dual boot using F8 (for now, unsuccessful with chain0 so far; exploring other methods) [EDIT: the chain0 method works if both the OSX and XP disks are partitioned as MBR]

Hi, I just add few words about Wifi and 10.5.3 update :

* For 10.5.3 Update, it's simple, use kalyway 10.5.3 combo update release, it work like a charm, except for USB2.0 which was broken after update.

To fix usb 2.0 (kinda dirty way since it left some warning during boot) re-install last PCGenUSB kext release with kexthelper (in KOOLSOFT).

If it's still do not work, do this :

-boot in safe mode (-s)

-mount root filesystem with writing permissions : mount -uw /

-delete AppleUSBEHCI.kext from /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins

-copy PCGenUSBEHCI.kext to /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins

-repair permissions

-reboot

-And voila, some warnings about preference file missing and kmod problem but USB2.0 is working (probably because 10.5.3 USB files are updated and PCGen driver need to)

-Kinda dirty way I know, but it worked well

* About wifi, I found a cheap USB2.0 dongle working like a charm, D-Link DWA-110, here is a french link to purchase it.

OSX drivers are provided in install cd, they work with 10.4.x and 10.5.x, enjoy :)

And to answer some PM i've recieved, I will post as soon as possible a complete hardware report for ACER Aspire 5920G to help newscomers choosing the right driver while installing kalyway 10.5.2 release.

HI,

sorry for not being active on forum theses days but job come first ^^

I will probably do a complete re-install of Kalyway 10.5.2+ patch to 10.5.4 (will try differents patchs, not only kalyway combo 10.5.3) with lots of screenshots to end with a complete howto for Aspire 5920G owners. I do not have leopard retrail disk (and no money to buy it for the moment, spend all my money for an iMac 24inchs for my wife, it's provided with restore disks, not install disks) so I cannot test boot132+retrail disk install.

As soon as I have time do to the howto I will post it here (screenshots will be in french, sorry folks ^^)

The goal : have the closest possible install from vanilla to ensure the least problem will future updates.

Stay tuned and remember : if you can, buy a real mac, that's the best way to have no problems :(
