iSnow
Hi, has anyone had success in getting his graphics card to run at the 1680-resolution of a 20" widescreen? It mostly seems, people got 1600 via plist hacks, but I have yet to read of a card model that supports the 80 extra pixels. If yes, please state your card model. nsmith40
I have a Compaq x1000 laptop with ATI Mobility 9200, and I too am trying to get 1680x1050 working. So far, it will only go to 1280x1024 and it stretches it to widescreen, which is annoying. Hopefully someone out there knows how to get this working! What version 10.4.x did you change the resolution on? And how exactly did you do it? I have the exact same X1000 laptop, and I haven't been able to change the resolution yet.... I'm running 10.4.3.... P.S. 1280 is the width, 1024 the height, so what do you mean by stretching to widescreen, since the X1000 runs at 1280 width in optimal config....? Actually, the native resolution of my x1000 is 1680x1050 (16:10 ratio). I changed the resolution to 1280x1024 (4:3 ratio, which gets stretched to fill the screen) by using this method. btw, I'm running OSx86 10.4.3 8F1111A Patched Jas v4.2b Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/9831-1680x1050-res-supported/#findComment-64492 Share on other sites

Mine is 15,4 " widescreen" with optimal resolution at 1280x800....driven by an ATI 9200 mobility 32 MB.... That's why I didn't understand why you were still getting stretching.... It actually gives me hope....1280 is my optimal width....if I can get 1280x1024 I will be able to use X86 on my laptop....maybe (If OS X support screen scrolling when running larger resolution than screen can display) By the way I read elswhere about a trick using a bios settings for external monitors switching on/off but I don't have any monitor settings in my bios, maybe you do...and another trick used by a brave guy who flashed is ATI card with an ATI flashing utility to set the resolution and refresh rate in his cards ROM, thus forcing OS X to use it at that res...... P.S. I used the boot.plist trick but didn't get anywhere.... I'll double check everything just in case..... Louis
the boot.plist edit might not work for you due to the fact that the height of 1024 is more pixles than the 800 your LCD has. That's what I was afraid of. I wonder if it's a VESA 2.0 or OS X limitation....I suspect, it's OS X detecting the monitor size/settings and reverting to the lower res....would be nice to find out where that's controlled..... P.S. Someone just found a way to get his ATI Xxxx to work perfectly without mouse tearing....There's hope. Are you using a ADD2 card? I seem to be unable to get my ICH6 i900 to switch to 1680 and the ADD2-adapter I bought does not work in my AOpen board :/ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/9831-1680x1050-res-supported/#findComment-67901 Share on other sites
Brywalker
I didn't have to mess with the drivers at all in 10.4.4, 10.4.5 I did. I don't have the ADD2 card, I wish I did though. I would need a DVI KVM which is like $150 so I am going VGA. I heard that there are a couple of ADD2 cards that don't go higher than 1600x1200. I'll jump on ebay and buy a Radeon the instant someone comes up with a working solution!!! Please! Brywalker
Could you elaborate (or link) on how you messed with the drivers in 10.4.5? Thanks! I had to copy over a file from the 10.4 installation. I don't remember which one, but do a search - it is on the boards here somewhere. Even then, it didn't work as well as the 10.4 install. Guest goodtime
To get native Res on a Compaq X1000: Get Callisto 003 fixed from Omni's Website OpenGL and QE/CI as far as I know is not possible yet. Native Res is with Callisto 2D Accel. is possible. Able to get it to work. Working on a guide but am hesitant to release it because this is not a complete solution. Most people will want QE/CI/OpenGL. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/9831-1680x1050-res-supported/#findComment-162914 Share on other sites
