I would like to post a warning as well as ask for help.

In my HP pavilion dv4040ca, i have an intel PRO/Wireless 2200 b/g mini-pci card built-in.

Mini-pci is a laptop standard. But i found out, now that i recieved my dell truemobile 1450 wireless card, that this isn't so. Sure, you can connect any wireless card and get it working with the right drivers, but there is a severe limitation to our notebook computers:

THE INTEL CARD IS SHORTER THAN MOST MINI-PCI CARDS, AND OUR LAPTOPS DO NOT ACCEPT ANYTHING BIGGER. MOST CARDS ARE 5.9 X 5 CM, THE INTEL IS JUST 4.9 X 4.5, AND THE PCS ARE ONLY MADE TO FIT CARDS WITH THESE DIMENSIONS.

Thus, this card i have purchased is a piece of junk. It will not fit into my computer and i am very angry with HP at the moment.

That's the warning.

Now then, i know that the early HP pavilion dv4000s also had an option to buy with a broadcom wireless card. I would love feedback from users with that card, just to know what chipset it is, etc. You don't even need to open up the laptop, unless you want to see what i'm talking about.

To the general forum members: anyone else aware of such limitations? or maybe aware of wireless cards compatible with mac os x x86 with dimensions like those of the Intel PRO/Wireless 2200 card?

Thank you,

A very upset and frustrated Urby.
