On the well-known place there is also a non-vanilla kernel for Intel processors.

Thanks for info !!

works with my old and "hot" pentium D

( using pacifist to install Time Machine and Airport update except vanillia mach_kernel of course and then apply hacked kernel for intel sse3 )

unfortunately boot time is longer ...

Instant Kernel panic on my rig too. For the record I had both files and installed them both (several times) in the exact same way as I always have done on past occasions.

Installed new kernel and it seems usb problems have finished, and shutdown and reboot seem to work now. i´ll do more tests...

ok, EDIT: two reboots ok and two shutdown not completed, one of them with kernel panic...i think im going to reinstall and not to apply the latest time machine update.... :-(

Ok, I think I discovered the reason for the kernel panics:

I have two AMD Leopard partitions installed, one with EFI, one without.

The non-EFI version gets an instant panic, while the EFI version boots

just fine. And yes, it feels like a performance boost. :D

For the research: I have SMBIOS version 1.0.12 on my working EFI-Leo.

Perhaps you can confirm this. Open the terminal and type 'kextstat' at

the prompt, then search for a line like

28 0 0x20288000 0x4000 0x3000 com.apple.driver.AppleSMBIOS (1.0.12) <12>

or simply rightclick get-Info and look it up.

However. For the irritated noob that wants to give it a try, here is a

risk-free howto:

If you want to check out the new 9.2.2 kernel with no risk, just

copy it in your root beside your mach_kernel (use the finder). At

bootup press F8 and in the darwin bootmanager just enter the kernel

name to boot and hit enter. In this case type mach_922. No need to

repair permissions for the kernel.

if it boots up fine, you can rename the mach_922 in mach_kernel and

delete the old mach_kernel via finder. If not, just boot up normally

without hitting F8.

The system.kext can be added later, it is just for the bom.archiever and

the diskimagemounter to work. Run diskutility after replacing it in System/

Library/Extensions.

And remember, it is always good to backup files before replacing them.

It is not hard to find the old kernel on the internet, but it may be difficult

to find the old system.kext, especially if you are not down with irc.

in case that you are stucked here, I uploaded the OLD system.kext for

the 9.2.0 AMD Kernel. KLICK

Hi,

I am running on AppleSMBIOS (1.0.13).

Instant kernel panic here as well,

maybe all panic-mates are also running on 1.0.13?

Probably we need to go back to 1.0.12 to get 9.2.2. running?

Anyone to confirm?

P

// EDIT

>> Thats not it unfortunately, just tried it meself. SMBIOS 1.0.12 on 9.2.2. same instant panic....

Same problm here with SMBIOS 1.0.13 an Kernel 9.2.2.

But I can boot with -v -f.

Now getting back old Kernel and System.kext

//EDIT

I get this Errormessage on kernel panic (even on my restored 9.2.0 kernel and System.kext): Unable To Find Driver For This Platform: \"ACPI\". Anyone got an idea on how to fix this? Yesterday before installing the 9.2.2 kernel everything worked fine, never had to boot with -v -f.

Bad luck, usually after replacing with the old files everything should go back to normal.

Did you delete Extensions.mkext after backreplacing?

After deleting Extensions.mkext everything works fine.

I thought -f deletes is and makes new caches smile.gif

Well, unfortunately not. -f means just force to load kext's, but not rearranging the cache.

The best way is just to delete.

anyway, good news then!

Maybe we'll all find a way to get 922 to work for us.

I wonder whther one hast to apply the time machine update before or along with the new kernel, but i am not

in the mood of testing any more,-)
