sirdemonbrown
heylo, i was running Kalyway 10.5.2 with no problems until yesterday. i installed Final Cut Studio 2 and then ran Apple Update. it installed anupdate for Time Machine. i have previously installed updates with no problems. upon booting now, Leopard starts to boot and then abruptly forces a reset. before it gets very far. any ideas on how to get my system back to normal? i dual boot with XP so i have access to the OSX files. thanx! sirdemon Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/95870-kalyway-1052-wont-boot-after-time-machine-update/ Share on other sites
Donar
...and a few other updates... What "other" updates? Time Machine and Airport? If yes -> You now have Vanilla 9.2.2 kernel on your PIV machine.... cardsdoc
you are correct!yep. there were updates for Time Machine and Airport. so i can drop the Kalyway kernel back in somehow? i have backups of the mach.kernel and System.kext's from when i updated to 10.5.2. If the backup is in the root direcory (same as mach_kernel) then you can force a boot with the backup kernel. When darwin starts to load hit f8 for the boot prompt. Then type the name of the backup kernel and hit enter (mach_kernel_bak for example). If it's not in the root directory then it is more difficult. This happened to me and I am fortunate to have a real mac as well. I wound up removing the laptop drive on the hackintosh and sticking it in a usb enclosure and replaced the kernel using my macbook pro. I don't know of other good options besides re-installing. truetigger
Just out of curiosity, when you say back-up, did you just copy and paste the "libary" folder from system? westwaerts
no as explained in the news for this update, you cannot go back to old kernel, because it changes more than just the kernel. but your machine should run, if efi installed, even with 9.2.2 kernel.
