dantheman6690
I know that there is the wiki that has the compatible hardware but I wasn't able to find some of mine on there and was wondering if anyone had had success with them. My system: IBM R40 laptop Mobile Intel® Pentium® 4 - M CPU 2.20 GHz 40 GB Hard Drive ATI Mobility Radeon (not positive what model, cant find the # anywhere) Mat{censored}a DVD-RAM UJ-810 Cisco Systems PCI Wireless LAN Adapter Intel® PRO/100 VE Network Connection (not even sure if it works though. had some trouble in the past. i do mostly wireless) Soundmax Integrated Digital Audio Intel® 82801DB/DBM USB 2.0 The hardware I'm particularly worried about is the USB and the Wireless Card because I haven't been able to find any posts of anyone saying they work. Please help a noob out. Thanks. sorry forgot also to post that my laptop has 512mb of ram Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/9528-wondering-if-my-hardware-is-compatible/ Share on other sites
Eggman
In theory, anything with SSE2 is compatible. The Pentium M has SSE2, so yes. Any USB controller (I think) works flawlessly. Cisco owns Linksys, so you can expect the same results with your Cisco wireless device as people are getting with Linksys. Just install 10.4.4 and see if it works. If it doesn't, you can learn how to make it work. Good luck with your installation! dantheman6690
awesome. thanx. I'll post back when I install it. Need to finish getting the image first. Since maxuss site is down, should I install 10.4.1 thats pre-patched? I don't really have any way of getting the patch for 10.4.4. Also if you think I should install 10.4.4, can you give me a link to guide on doing it or is it the same as any other guide? Also, I found this in the HCL wiki thing: Intel 82801BA/DB/DLB/DBM/EB (UHCI) <-- It gives an error of USB over powering and doesn't detect any device. Motherboard: MSI MS-6565, chipset Intel E7205. Advices to pipe752 at gmail dot com I'm not sure if that means that it works or doesn't work but isn't the HCL hardware that works? Thanks for ur help. Edit: Just found the links to the patches w/ google cache but the instructions for installing are from 10.4.3. I want to wipe my hard drive and have only 10.4.4 on it. If someone could help me out, that would be awesome. cyrana
Dan, I'd recommend doin 10.4.3, definitely don't go 10.4.1. And you are correct, you need to do 10.4.3 and then 10.4.4 at this point, there is no method that lets you do 10.4.4 direct from DVD. Most likely your USB will work fine... dantheman6690
ok cool thanks. I just need to download the 10.4.3 and 10.4.4 cds now then and cancel the download for 10.4.1. It's going pretty slowly but i know it'll be worth it. dantheman6690
another question. i dont have the image yet but if im following this guide: http://blog.phnews.org/wp/2006/01/25/how-t...-your-pclaptop/ up to the part with the dual boot, is it possible to wipe the first partition that has the windows on it cause my hard drive is only a 40 gig so its not worth running windows too. jbjonas
If you really want to wipe your entire drive, then you don't need to prep the partition for OS X using diskpart. You can just erase the drive by repartitioning it from Tools>DiskUtility while installing from the DVD (before you actually start the install process) I would try booting from the DVD once you create it, to make sure the installer can see your hard drive - before you actually destroy the windows install. dantheman6690
o ok. That's good because I figured that should be possible but wasnt able to find any guides on how. I'll do that once i finish getting the DVD. dantheman6690
burnt the 10.4.3 8F1111 patched install disc. I set my laptop to boot from it and it starts up fine but in the installer, it doesn't find my hard drive. How can I fix this? If it helps, the drive is: IC25N040ATMR04-0-(PM) I googled that and its a hitachi drive. I just checked using disk utility and it finds the drive but installer still doesn't. Don't know if that helps. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/9528-wondering-if-my-hardware-is-compatible/#findComment-63674 Share on other sites
Attil@
Hi all! I'm new to this forum, but it's very good! I'm dumb to the MacOS X86 thing, I've used MacOS on Mac (PM8500/180) and Windows on PC. My question: is my HW compatible? My setup: - Microstar 645 Ultra-C motherboard with SiS 645 chipset - 2,4 GHz Celeron CPU (Northwood core, 400MHz FSB, 128KB cache) - 768 MBytes of RAM (2x V-DATA, 256+512MB, 400MHz) - 80 GB Maxtor HDD, 7200 rpm, 8MB cache - Microstar GeForce FX5200 128MB - LG LSA-4166 DVD-RW - SoundBlaster Audigy 4 - 3Com ethernet card (3C905TX) - Pinnacle PCTV Pro TV tuner - USB 2.0 card with 5 ports, based on NEC chip hope, I didn't forget anything to mention Will it run OSX86? Or better to forget it? Thanks in advance for help! dantheman6690
Thanks to jbjonas, last night I installed OS X on my IBM laptop. The wireless card doesn't work so far but I'll try to figure that out.
