the issue is with your SATA driver, so you wont be able to boot off your DVD since its connected using SATA. you will have to find a pre-patched bootable DVD or boot from another device (USB).

you can also find another hackintosh or mac and install a 10.5 system on your hackintosh's drive and then patch it from your mac or other hackintosh and then put it back in your p5k-se machine.

thats really your only options.

Hello, thank you for your interest in my problem; unfortunately Asus P5K-SE doesnt have AHCI option; it lets me configure ide as Compatible or Enhanced, and for the setting "Configure SATA as:" i have only IDE.

I tried both modifying an hard disk with osx86 installed; deleting AppleVIAATA and installing DuNe's AppleIntelPIIX but it hangs as described before.

I tried with an IDE DVD drive too, using integrated Marvell controller but no way, same problem; i would like to hear someone who is running OSX86 on a P5K-SE...because it is reported in the HCL but actually i know my case and another with the same problems.

Cheers

SOLVED

Problem solved; my CPU was defective; compiz on linux was freezing the machine and prime95 on windows gave errors after few seconds of run....

P5K-SE works, just remove AppleVIAATA and use DuNe's AppleIntelPIIX

Update:

After running without AppleVIAATA and installing Leopard from SATA ich9 dvd i got on Leo and i wanted to see my PATA discs but putting back AppleVIAATA will result in using it for the ICH9 controller, plus it doesnt have Marvell ids; so i made these changes to it:

I removed ICH9 SATA controller device id from AppleVIAATA.kext/Info.plist, which is:

(lspci -n) 00:1f.5 0101: 8086:2926 (rev 02)

0x29268086 in Info.plist

and i added Marvell device id:

(lspci -n ) 02:00.0 0101: 11ab:6121 (rev b2)

0x612111ab in Info.plist

Cheers!

I am trying to get this working on a p5K-se with an IDE DVD player and SATA drive in slot 1, is this doable?

I would rather not install 10.4 first and all that hassle, is it possible to directly install 10.5.1 using an IDE DVD and SATA HD?

Patched DVD installers are fine. I would also consider buying an SATA DVD if I can install 10.5.1 directly.
