A Nonny Moose
It's currently a beta but Application Enhancer is now available for 10.5. In addition, there are Leopard ready APEs ready for you to download. As always, haxies of any sort will slow your system down by a hair, and it has the possibility of seriously screwing things up (but that's why we have the Master Exclude List). If you like your old haxies, it's time to bring them back. If you hate APE, then there is no reason for you to download it. fryke
no reason to download, but still a reason to scream. APE's been the reason for most support problems in the past by far. there's only one thing worse, and that's how unsanity always tried to shove the blame towards apple or 3rd party software developers. sadly, APE's back now. :/ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/93940-ape-for-105/#findComment-669567 Share on other sites
A Nonny Moose
Fryke, unless you can support such a claim, don't say it. Apple says it doesn't support APE systems and won't read a report if APE is mentioned in the report. Firewire is also mentioned in every crash report, though, and Apple clearly supports Firewire. By the logic Apple is using, Firewire is just as responsible for every problem on every system merely because it appears in the crash report. George Elliott
OSX version is probably also mentioned too, I think the key difference between firewire and APE is that one is supplied by apple and is therefore supported by them and the other is a third party addition that jumps in and fundamentally modifies the way the operating system works. Can you see the problem that Apple might have with this? I'm not saying that APE is responsible for any problems that users may be having, but if you make the operating system do something it wasn't designed to then you're on your own as far as sorting out problems goes. There's nothing stopping users from uninstalling APE and waiting for a crash to happen again, if it does that is. A Nonny Moose
George, I understand that logic. What I'm saying is that people tend to blame APE for everything just because it shows up in the crash report. It isn't always APE's fault. I've replicated several Safari crashes and the problem was with Flash, not with APE (proved when I put Safari on the APE master exclude list). When I sent the error report, I specifically said "This is a Flash problem, not an APE problem" and "crash replicated with Safari on the master exclude list--THIS ISN'T APE'S FAULT." Apple will most likely ignore both reports though because it makes a mention of APE in said crash report. Such a thing is very short sighted, considering there is a way to put applications on the APE list. It reminds me of the idiot IT guy I had at my last job. He blamed everything on the fact that WordPerfect was installed on a machine somewhere in the company. There's no telling how far the damage from hacking at mission-critical OS parts can propagate. A Nonny Moose
So you're saying there is also no telling how far the damage is from making the Hackintosh either...
