Well, currently, I'm trying to do the exact same thing. Except, mine has an AMD Turion 64 processor (SSE3, x64). Mine boots OK into the installer, with the exception of that it doesn't recognize the SATA controller, so it can't be installed at the time.

No luck for me, too! I've tested Zephyroth 10.5.1, Zephyroth 10.5.2 rev.1, Zephyroth 10.5.2 Rev. 2, Leo4all 10.5.2, Iatkos 10.5.2 for Amd...

The best was Zephyroth 10.5.2 Rev1, that i managed to install but didn't boot after restart. The other releases didn't work!

I read about some guys that have succeed with Leo on 1501 Inspiron, but no one give the details about that!

I am running Zephyroth 10.5.2rev1 on my 1501. Had to use callisto for my graphics(ati 1150) and AppleHDA v1.15 with stac9200.txt for sound.

Everything rocks just no QE ;) Also dual boot with vista, that was a :wallbash: pain to get working!

I mange to install Leo 10.5.2 on my Dell Inspiron 1501!

Its Working great under latest version of VMWare, and boot native only in safe mode

A small guide:

1) I split my HDD in 3 partitions:

a)- for Leo (Primary, fat),

:)- for personal stuff (ntfs),

c)- for Windows XP (Primary, ntfs)

2) Install Windows XP

3) Install latest version of VmWare

4) Install Latest version of Acronis Boot Manager

5) find and burn an DVD with Leo4All v2 (VERSION 2 - the only one that worked for me)

6) restart your computer and press F2 to enter BIOS menu

7) setup you bios like in picture below (disable Wireless, Lan, and Bios USB) else you will get the AppleGenericPCATADriver error)

8) format and install Leo. For kernel leave the version that is checked by default, also check the AMD fix option

9) be patient until the installation will finish and your Dell will be rebooted

10) after reboot enter in windows with Acronis

11) open VMWare and setup a new virtual machine (Type: Free BSD, 1 core, HDD: physical drive with all partitions)

12) start your vitual machine, and boot Leo 10.5.2 (try -f option)

13) setup your account and personal data

14) first backup and then download Emzo's made-for-Inspiron-1501 IOATAFamily.kext, extract, & copy the kext to /System/Library/Extensions/

15) repair disk permision

16) shutdown your virtual machine

17) reboot your computer

18) Leopard boot only in safe mode (with -x option). also try -x -f option

Here i'm stuck!

I need help to boot without -x and get rid of "Not an ACInterfaceRef (null)"

I've tryed all combinations in BIOS but with no luck!

PS1: An more detailed guide for VMWare part(for tiger) here

PS2: I've tested the AppleHDAPatcher and Callisto from Tiger Installation Guide but with no luck

PS3: sorry for not postig pictures with Leo, but i forgot my USBstick at home, and i'm at work now. More details later

Hi,

I was able to install Leo4AllV2 on my Inspiron 1501.....My specs are

15.4" WXGA widescreen display

AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-56 (1.8GHz / 256 KB)

2 GB, DDR2 SDRAM at 533 MHz

100 GB Toshiba SATA Hard drive

8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW)

Dell wireless 1490 802.11g Mini Card (54Mbps)

53 WHr Lithium Ion Battery.

But I am yet to test this since its taking lot of time for me to make the Dual boot work....

Fast1, Can you tell me how you made it work?...

and did you have to replace any kexts once you logged to make wireless work....my card looks different than yours..but my sound is Sigmatel HD Audio which i think is standard on 1501....So i might have to replace like you have..

Let me know how you made the dual boot work...?

TIA..

I'm writing this from my Dell Inspiron 1501 with Leo4All v2 10.5.2, running native with:

- Dell 1390 wireless card - run out of box

- Broadcom 440x 10/100 ethernet card - run out of box

- Sigmatel 92xx HD Audio - patched with AppleHDA Patcher, kind of running, but with interruptions - need another patch

- ATI X1150 video card - need patch - only 1024x798 resolution

- Power management - need patch

Any help for solving my problems will be welcome! Thank you!

I did try the callisto method but is not working, maybe is not compatible with Leo (with Tiger worked).

The patch for Sound worked somehow, but with several issues: if i play a sound i hear it with distortions and interruptions, but if i start moving the mouse it plays more close to normal. It plays "normal" only while i move the mouse. The same problem i have it with movies, while i keep the mouse moving, plays almost normal!! Strange!!

To boot i used Acronis boot manager to be sure it will recognize the Darwin Bootloader, and after that i uninstall it and now i'm using only Darvin Bootloader, to choose between Leo and WinXP

Not sure why callisto isn't working for you...did you use the 1150 specific modifed kexts??? It worked for me and the sound is working too.....and for the dual boot...

I was finally able to get the Dual boot working(although could login to Leo coz of other issues... :D )Not sure why but I had to make leo partition active in windows expilicitly thru partition magic to get it working. I had formatted it initially as Fat32 and primary and made it active using terminal commands in leo but that didn't work...but when i made it active thru partition magic and added an entry in EasyBCD...it worked like a charm...now just need to figure out why it is stopping at "waiting for root device" for my internal HDD.It boots of perfectly from my external USB HDD...

My 1150 Kexts are attached..and you can use the same Sigmatel Codec dump with AppleHDA for the sound. Refer to Tiger on Insipron 1501 thread in forums.

Good luck with the install....

Edit: using -f during boot didn't help either...I am going to try a different AMD version tonight and see if it helps..

Fast1, could you please tell, how did you get power management to work. I have tried to get it to work( tried with a bundle, from a topic about power management on Leopard), but no luck. Could you please also tell which kernel are you using. I'm using ToH 9.1 , because 9.2 detected only 1 cpu.
