Some people have said you can install the 10.4.5 update normally then reapply the patches to get 10.4.5 working. Don't hold me responsible if OSX goes bang when you do it though. If you replace the kernel and decrypted binaries, you're sort of running 4.4 anyway.

Also, forget the size: try a checksum. Are they exactly the same other than the date?

We'll get Nvidia drivers sooner or later, anyway. In any case, macvidia expects their next driver beta release to support QE :)

then again, macvidia say lots of things

I noticed that during the boot process of 10.4.4 (with -v option), something is calling the geforce kexts several times. The system loads despite the errors returned from not being able to load the kexts. Judging by the error, it appears something is missing from the kexts in order for them to be loaded properly.

There was no attempt to load the kexts during boot in 10.4.3, so this could be significant...or not. Any thoughts?

Of course something mission from kexts. Apple tested OS X on Intel platform for long time with different hardware.

I think that there is no chance to get "x" graphic card to work, until Apple would make next MacIntel with "x" series video card inside. As with Radeon X1600 and above with 10.4.4 kexts.

As for the subject for this post it could be true only for ATI.
