By "the Maxtor", do you mean this one? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Maxtor-Touch-Firew...e/dp/B000CSJ2EU

Its this one. http://www.amazon.co.uk/MAXTOR-ONETOUCH-Ex..._sbs_ce_title_1

For the price, I would choose neither. A better drive than both of them would be this:

But if you must choose between only those two, I'd go with the WD.

I've lost my faith in LaCie after reading the reviews. And the reviews were bad.

Elements drives come in 2.5" so you can take it out and once you have put it in your MPB you can put the old one in the casing! CLEVER HEH??

hehehehe... How am I going to fit a 3.5" in a MBP? :P

Regarding the price, its a tad expensive than the other two. but I dont really mind.

Maybe this will also do, I have one of the older versions!

What makes it nice it looks like a Mac Mini and it gives me extra 3 x USB's 3 x Firewires with a cooling system! Although mine is an older one the NAS version looks COOL!

I have one on ebay Switzerland with 120GBIDE(but you can take that out), Where are you based?

damn it is sweet. but I can't afford it. And the reseller in UK is not paypal friendly. :tears:

This one has six ONE-star reviews!! Out of six!!!

Riiiiiight.

Then why would you even consider the Maxtor?

Ive actually been doing research for the past few months and most feedbacks from LaCie users had problems with their 500gb HD. The lower capacity has not much problems, but its the 500gb ones. Customers had it for a few months and it broke down. And there were many complaints. As for the Maxtor one Touch, so far so good. Thats why I considered it.

Alright. Yup, the review is not as good even in Newegg unfortunately. customers complained about the HD being slow to start up after idling at some site that I researched. I was going through buffalo and freecom as well, but it seems that I'll be over budget if I would go for those two.
