JMM
Excuse my ignorance... Can you please give us an example on how to do it? And how to restore it to a HD. This is like a CLONE on a file right? thanks for your inputs! go to terminaltype man dd Briefly it is a unix utility Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/88783-in-need-of-a-program-that-will-backup-my-entire-setup/#findComment-635113 Share on other sites
wmarsh
And how do you restore to a HD. This is like a CLONE on a file right? You use dd to copy back from the file to your partition. Obviously not from within OS X (unless its another install). But versions of dd exist for windows, and Linux is a native utility under Linux, so there are many ways of restoring. SticMAC™
No all the "cloners" software are made for Mac machines so you must at least make the drive bootable again manually by using pc_efi_v8! Always have a bootable disk like "Kalyway's format and make Harddrive bootable" DVD to prepare you new HDD then any backup & restore will work. this includes CCC, Superduper, normal Diskutility or even TimeMachine! As for the dd.exe command search for "flat image" there is a whole installation by this name but you need and the install procedures explain VERY nicely the different commands!
