6apxat
Hi, I've got a problem with 3D games on my Leopard 10.5.2. Almost every game I'm trying to run crashes and shows the "You need to restart your computer" screen. Actually until now only Zuma demo worked. See the tech specs below. ~pcwiz
Unstable kernel probably. Pentium Ds are also pretty finicky. It might be because of the 10.5.2 update though. Headrush69
Boot using adding the following option debug=0x100 and see if the restart message gives you more useful info. 6apxat
i thought maybe that's because i can't change my resolution in system (i set 1280x1024 by editing boot.plist) and games might try to change it on launch. E-werd
I would say that could possibly be an issue: how many games run at 1280x1024 on launch? There are plenty of drivers for GMA950 around, like whatever natrually comes with 10.5, Natit, and the leopard driver update--not everybody has good luck with that, though I did when I installed Natit first. 6apxat
I'm on the desktop version of gma950 and I've concluded from here that only laptop models succeded yet. Won't risk until a fail-safe solution is found as many customizations were made so far. OS X is lovely Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/88031-3d-games-crash-the-system/#findComment-639489 Share on other sites
r00ter
Also, Intel makes the worst onboard graphics chipsets ever, but they make for cheap motherboards - so rock on Intel. Have you tested it with an ATi/nVidia card? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/88031-3d-games-crash-the-system/#findComment-640146 Share on other sites
6apxat
Not yet. But still, warcraft should run on intel gma950 (as it runs fine on macbooks) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/88031-3d-games-crash-the-system/#findComment-640510 Share on other sites
hmclog
I think the resolution is the cause of your problem. I had the same problem. You must start the game with MacOS X's "native" resolution. So before you start the game, you must edit the game's config file and set the resolution or start the game from the command line and set options for the resolution. 6apxat
So the problem really was the resolution. See my post here for the details. By now we have a choice to have games running or to have a comfortable workflow Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/88031-3d-games-crash-the-system/#findComment-640894 Share on other sites
